It is very important to protect the urban biodiversity. The urban biodiversity has a consanguineous correlation with urban human being habitation environments and sustainable development, and it was a very significant way to constructing and protecting urban biodiversity by the study of plant species diversity of greenbelts in urban built-up area. In this study, we made a systematic investigation on the plants of all types of greenbelts in urban built-up area of Beijing city, obtained the actuality of greenbelts plants resources, analyzed that the species composing of plants in urban greenbelt, calculated and discussed the characteristic of plant biodiversity, intending to provide scientific gist and basic data for the ecological urban construction and urban biodiversity conservation in Beijing city.The results showed that there were 632 plants species, which belonged to 365 genera and 111 families in greenbelts of Beijing built-up area. In those plants, there were 133 arbor species, 103 shrub species, 375 herbage species, 11 herbaceous-liana species and 10 ligneous-liana species. Among them, 451 species were Beijing native plants, which were accounted for 71.36% of total plants species; 99 species were introduced from other regions of China, 15.66% of total parks plants, and 73 species were introduced from foreign countries, 11.55% of total plants.In the all types of greenbelt, the large-scale parks greenbelts has the most plants species, the following are affiliated greenbelts, public greenbelts and inhabitancy greenbelts, while street greenbelts and isolating greenbelts have the lowest plants species. All types of greenbelts have a quite high proportion of native species in urban built-up area.The richness of greenbelt plants in urban built-up area of Beijing city is very high. The herbage has the highest species richness, shrub and arbor secondly. The arbor has the biggest uniformity value in all types of greenbelt, shrub secondly, the last one is herbage.
