Automatic Generalization Of Settlements Based On ArcObjects

With the deepening of GIS theory research and the expansion of GIS service field, the standard that users demanded for GIS is higher and higher, a GIS system with scale calculation and data integration ability will incarnate more value in protecting the investor's benefit and satisfying the demand for multi-fields. At present, the main method is to repeatedly obtain and deal with the data and establish databases of different scales. However, it result in waste of resource and inefficiency and so on. The ideal strategy is to create neighboring small-scale data from the existing large-scale data. The key to question is how to use the map cartographic generalization or other theory to realize the automatic generalization for spatial objects.This paper put the research emphasis on the method concerning conflict detection and amalgamation of residential area in map generalization, and give examples based on ArcObjects component. Firstly, the key technology of realizing map generalization were discussed based on the analysis of the importance of map generalization and the relation between map generalization and GIS, and introduce the development of component object technology and the method how component object technology combined with GIS, then pop out to introduce the exploitation mode of application system based on ArcObjects and the map generalization function of ArcGIS; Secondly, contraposing the disfigurement of delaunay triangulation applying to conflict detection, this paper bring forward a detection method based on buffer analysis, also expatiate its advantage and shortage. For amalgamation of residential area, this paper simply analyze the existent method applying to the amalgamation of residential area, and put forward a new method which is applicable to the simple polygons. More, this paper validate its rationality by large numbers of examples which is designed based on ArcObjects component.Finally, the author draw a conclusion, then point out the deficiency and what should go on to do in this paper.
