Nine genera and forty-nine species of the nematocerous family Sciaridae are recognized from China, including 18 new to science, 7 genera and 22 species new to China. Manusciara quadridigitat Yang et Zhang becomes a synonym to Prosciara Frey. Examination of type material produced two new combinations (Prosciara hexacantha (Yang, Zhang et Yang, 1995) comb. nov.; Prosciara quadridigitata (Yang et Zhang, 1995), comb.nov.) and one new synonym {Prosciara filichaeta Hippa et Vilkamaa, 1991 [=Trichosiopsis sinica Yang et Zhang, 1998, syn. nov.]}. A key to the genera of Sciaridae from China was given, and all the genera, new species and newly recorded species from China were fully described and illustrated respectively. All specimens examined are deposited in the Entomological Collection, Zhejiang Forest University, Lin'an, China (ZJFU).
