The Study On The Landform In Yandang Mt. In Zhejiang Province, China

Nowadays, people all over the World have being put many emphases on the establishment of the World Geopark system in order to protect rarely geologic remains in the world. With most valuable volcanoic sites and cultural heritages,Yandang Mt. was selected as one of the World Geoparks in 2005. Since then, more and more tourists have been attracted to visit this mountain and brought much economic benefit for the local residents and government. Because of the lack of study on the landform characteristics and its development in the mountain, less information about the landform in the mountain has been reveal, and tourists can not understand how the beautiful landform scenes formed in the past and how it will develop in the future. So it becomes very urgent to take research about the landforms in this area.This paper has done some researches about characteristics of landforms, the distribution of the landform and the development of the landform. Based on the data acquired by more than 20-day fieldwork, the paper has got some recognition about the landform in the area. The recognition is as fellows:1) There are many different kinds of landforms in Yandang Mt. and they can be classified into three types and ten sub-types. The three types are Rock landform, Alluvial landform and Gravity landform.2) There are differences in the resistance to the weathering in different rocks, the waterfalls and rock cliffs developed in these rocks distribute at different heights. Under the control of the faults and joints, the valleys and rivers in the area extend along these geologic structures. The main directions of these valleys and rivers are EW and NNW.3) Under the influence of the tectonic uplifts and stream erosion, the landform in the area will develop step by step and four episodes can be identified during its evolution: childhood period, young period, adult period and old period. In different periods, the characteristics of the landform are also different.4) In order to improve the quality of the tourism in the area, three additional special travel routes are designed. The first is to realize the characteristics of landforms in different episodes; the second aims at helping tourists to understand why the waterfalls and rock cliffs distribute with different certain heights; the last is to introduce the development of valleys to tourists.
