The gradient refractive index (Gradient-Index, GRIN) material, a new kind ofoptical material, has important applied value in many fields such as optical fibercommunication system and micro-optical system. It can have simple geometric shapeand mainly depends on inhomogeneous refractive index distraction of medium torealize each optical function. It has received widespread attention because of the merits,such as its small volume, short optical path, light-weight, superior performance, easy toproduce and integrate. GRIN optical device which has been successed to apply ismostly prepared by inorganic material. The start to research polymer GRIN materialsespecially the polymer GRIN optical device was much later than that of the inorganicGRIN material.In this thesis, we combine the preparation of GRIN optical device with theresearch of polymer GRIN material, and uses two monomers (MMA-6FBA)at differentratio to polymerize, and analyses the mutative relation that the refractive index ofpolymer adapt to different ratio. Then prepares the GRIN material with organic materialby gel-diffusion copolymerization in order to solve some theoretical and technicalproblems, have made some progress. In this thesis, the main work includes the contentsas follows.Chapter 1 reviews the development, present situation and type of GRIN opticalmaterials, and then introduces the types and characteristics of GRIN material. On thebasis mentioned above, we put forward the assumption and foundation for the studies.Chapter 2 reviews the ray equation theory of axial GRIN flat, and analyses oneoptic character of axial GRIN flat.Chapter 3 discusses the effect of polymer chemical constitution on the polymermaterial optical quality, reviews the process and mechanism of forming axial GRIN flatfabricated by gel-diffusion copolymerization, and analyses the choice factor ofmonomer system. Introduces the polymerization condition of two monomers mixed atdifferent ratio, and also discusses effects of polymerization temperature, initiator amount used, and time of copolymerization.Chapter 4 reviews the types and methods of fabrication of various GRIN materials,reviews the process and mechanism of forming axial GRIN flat fabricated bygel-diffusion copolymerization, and analyses the choice factor of monomer system. Andalso discusses effects of polymerization temperature, initiator amount used, and time ofcopolymerization phase.In chapter 5, analyses the principle and process of measurement, which canmeasure the refractive index distribution of axial GRIN flat, and also figures outrefractive index distribution from simulated pattern.In chapter 6, analyses the spherical aberration of axial GRIN lens by using rayteacing method, and compares the axial GRIN lens with the coordinate homogeneouslens in spherical aberration.In chapter 7, A conclusion is made on the achievements in the finished work, theproblems needing to be improved and the work must to do in the next step.
