With the continuous development of GRIN optical theory and optical design, By using GRIN optics, the number of optical system component can be reduced, and simplified the processing technology, provided a new method for engineer to design a kind of micro-size, mild and high-quality optical system. So GRIN lens will be applied widely in optical communication.In this paper, discussed the propagation character of Gaussian-beam in GRIN medium and the application of GRIN lens in coupling system for optical fiber communication.First of all, analyzed the propagation character of Gaussian-beam in GRIN lens from wave equation, by using the variational method, got the expression of the radius of Gaussian-beam, radius of curvature and intensity of light in nonlinear GRIN medium, and mainly discussed the effect of the nonlinear and other factor on the radius of Gaussian-beam and intensity of light, and the self-focusing character of Gaussian-beam in nonlinear GRIN lens.Subsequently, used the double GRIN lens system for the coupling between the Gaussian-beam and the optical fiber, discussed the effect of system factor on the coupling system by the equivalent thin lens theory, and compared the stabilization improvement between the double GRIN lens system and the single one, finally got the general conclusion of choosing coupling system factor.
