Traditional knowledge and experiences on use of wild plants as well as folk nomenclature by the mongolians in Hure sandy area were studied based on the results of analysis of local flora.There are 209 species of wild plants belongs to 130 genera of 46 families distributed in this area. Among them, the dominant families are include Gramineae, Compositae, Leguminosae and Chenopodiaceae. The genera of seed plant are classified as 13 areal types. The type of north temperate distribution is the most dominant areal type.Plant folk names of the Mongolians in Hure sandy area have own structure, types and methods on nomenclature. There is a marked interrelationship between the abundance of plant folk names and the characters of flora.Traditional used wild plants by the Hure Mongolians can be classified as food use, beverage use, medicinal use, production and life use, and fuel use. The wild plants used as food and beverage including 21 species of vegetables, 2 species of edible fruits, and 2 species of wild grain. Among them, the fleshy bracts of mature seed cone of Ephedra sinica ,which used as edible fruits by the local Mongol people, contains various kinds of nutrition. There are 26 species and 2 varieties of wild species used as medicine. The knowledge of medicinal use expressed a character of a handy, easy to collection and emergency use in the selection of parts used and treatment. Besides, other 18 species of production and life used wild plants and 12 species of fuel used wild plants are playing an important role in the production and daily life of the local people.
