Establishment Of Insect Resource Database Of Chinese Parasitic Hymenoptera Based On IBM DB2

The database was established based on IBM DB2. Classification Table, Host Table, Morphology Table and Biology Table were defined to reserve the information for Chinese names, Latin names, nomenclators, hosts, morphological characters, images, biological characters according to the peculiarities of parasitic Hymenoptera. The friendly interfaces of the man-machine conversation written in VB made the use and maintenance of this database easier. Inputting and amending information can be easily done on the edit interface. The information users need can be found on the query interface by searching for family names, or genus names, or species names, or combinations, and the query results can be displayed and printed out with the information of classification, hosts, biology and morphology. Logging in, changing passwords, establishing new users and deleting users can be done on the user management interface.By neatening the dispersive references of Chinese parasitic Hymenoptera to the digital information of the database, users can get the interrelated text and image information in simple steps. The data of 2249 species were inputted so far, which belonged to 46 families and 594 genera. Some data remain to be inputted. This database could be a useful tool for the researchers or fans on insect classification, biological control and plant protection when they wish to know some Chinese parasitoids.
