The family Buprestidae, belonging to the order Coleptera,is of great economic importance, ornamental importance as well as applied potential. China is vast in territory and has a diverse fauna, but the research in this field has fallen far behind. To change the situation, the fauna study on this field was carried out by organizing and identifying the speciments collected in the insect laboratory of College of the Life Science and Techonlogy,Xinjiang University and by consulting the relative material. This paper composes the general part, classification review, taxonomic description, the fauna analysis and the geographical distribution.(1) In the general part, the systematic history and recent status are introduced and the distribution, economic importance, biological and ecological characters, are comprehensively summarized.(2) According to the preliminary study ,there are 15 genera and 58 species in Xinjiang.,among which 10 species are reported for the first time from China. In the classification part, some important species are described, and the distributions of the species are listed. Keys of genera and species are drawn up,morphological characters are depicted, and some photographs are taken.(3) In the fauna analysis ,Buprestidae in Xinjiang is mainly distributed in Palaeoarctic Region,in which the number of species makes up 98.3% of the total .Furthermore, there is only one Holo-Arctic species, which makes up 1.7% of the total. In the Palaeoarctic species, the Mid-Asian species, including 27 species,is dominant. Besides,Euro-Siberian,Endemic species,Panto-Palaeoarctic species,European species and Centro-Asian species respectively make up 24.6%,12.3%,10.5%,3.5%,1.8% of the Palaeoaretic species.(4) In the geographical distribution part,it can be deduced that Junggar Basin has most various kinds of Buprestidae amouting to 21 species,36.2% of the total while Tarim Basin,Dongjiang Basins and Yili Valley respectively have 11species,19.0%,6 species,10.5% and 15 species,25.9%; The species in the Altay and the Tianshan Mountain are also abundant .Among them,Altay Mountain has 19 species,32.8% of the total. As far as the vertical distribution is concerned,Ancylocheira Esch.,Chrysobothris Csiki.,Phaenops Lac.,Dicerca Esch. are mainly distributed in the mountain region and Julodis Esch.,Anthaxia Esch.,Capnodis Esch..,Sphenoptera Sols. are mainly found in the basin and desert. According to the study,it is also indicated that there are more species of Buprestidae in the Northern parts than in the Southern and Eastern parts of Xinjiang. (5) Buprestidae is the important pest of forests and fruit trees. In general, the following several species are considered as the important pests in Xinjiang: Agrilus mali Mats.,Dicer acuminata pall.,Phaenops cyanen F. and Phaenops gattulata Gebl.
