The research on feeding biology and nutritional analysis of Presbytis francoisi was carried out from August ,2002 to December ,2003 in Fusui Rare Animal Protection Station ,Fusui county, Guangxi and ecology lab of Science of Life college in Guangxi Normal University .The Focus Animal Sampling and Continuous Recording were used in studying feeding ecology .Weight method and ultraviolet ray-absorbed method and acid-alkali method were used in analysising water, crude protein and crude fiber contain .so to understand their feeding character and their need for nutrition .We can bring out reasonable basis about habitat-protecting and raising them inside .,in order to protect more reasonably rare animal—Presbytis francoisi. The main result were as follow: 1 The feeding behaviour of Presbytis francoisi was consisted of 4 parts: hunting for food trees climbing trees ,feeding and coming down. A total of 297 feeding bouts were recorded during study period., 140 bouts(47%) were torn off from trees and 154 bouts(52%) were held to be eaten , and branches were broken off in 3 bouts (1%). Feeding peak of Presbytis frrancoisi fluctuated in different season.. 2 36 species of plant were included in the diet of the Presbytis frrancoisi ,which accounted for 34.28% of the whole atonical species in the habitat .The diet of the presbytis francoisi varied seasonally .Leaves made up the most part of the diet from 84.40% to 92% in August ,fruits 9.11%,flowers 0.66%,tender branches 5.83% ,there were significant difference between time feeding leaves ,time feeding young branches and time feeding fruits . 3 The average daily feeding time varied seasonally ,which was 199.85±10.9 minutes in Spring ,119.73±4.63 minutes in Summer ,136.97±6.47 minutes in Autumn and 164.62±28.70 minutes in Winter. There was significant difference between them . The first five most favor species accounted for 66.7%of the whole feeding time ,and the first ten most favor species accounted for 78%,which showed that Presbytis francoisi centralized feeding few species food .4 Litsea.glutinosa,Annona.glabra,Pittosporum.glabratum ,Cipadessa.cinerascens, Desmos.cochinchinehsis ,Pistacia.weinmanaaifolia, Cudrania .cochinchinensisand , Ficus .harmandri are selected in four seasons. Some plants such as Gossampinus. barica, Sageretia .theezans were selected in certain season . Feeding time varied monthly and there was significant difference among them (P =0.004).The number of selected food varied seasonally ,as16 in Spring ,14 in Summer, 18 in Autumn and 29 in Winter . There were significant difference among them (P=0.038).5 Prebytis francoisi utilized different parts ( top ,middle and bottom ) of the Karst habitat .The feeding utilization on top of the hill accounted for 24.71%, 66.35% on middle 8.94% at bottom. Presbytis frrancoisi seasonally utilized food patches. We found that middle part of the hill was the most important place for the Presbytis francoisi , therefore ,to protect the vegetation of the mountainside area of the hill the most important.6 Presbytis frrancoisi use 8.39hm2 for feeding which accounted for 20% of the whole habitat area .Six patches accounted for 34.5%(2.89hm2 )of feeding area .Only one of six patches lies at the foot of the hill where farmers active frequently ,it showed that people activity have heavily the Presbytis francoisi .Density of ten most favor species in food patches was higher than that of other quadrats .There was significant difference between them (P =0.001,F=20.812),which showed density Key words : Presbytis frrancoisi , feeding biology , nutrition analysis food patch of favor food species was a important factor affecting food patches . 7 Water contained in food was the main water resource for the Presbytis francoisi .Water content varied from 47.32% to 79.80% among the food.Comparing 10 more favor species with less favor species ,we found there was no significant difference (P=0.062,F=3.947), which showed water contained in food was not the main facto...
