From July 2002 to June 2003 we carried out the research of the feeding biology and nutrition analysis of the white-headed leaf monkey. The wild research cite was located in Longlin habitat of the Fushui Rare wild Animal Reserve,Fusui county, southwest of GuangXi and nutrition analysis was finished in Ecology Key Lab of Science of Life college in Guangxi normal university. The feeding ecology of the white-headed leaf monkey focus is composed of foraging strategy, diet and feeding, nutrition substance and water of the foodstuff analysis, food patch utilization. We try to reveal how this monkey makes use of its karst topography habitat and adapt to the special environment, while discuss the research methodology to put forward some references to help protect this narrow distributed rare monkey effectively. The main results are as followings: 1,over-canopy feeding style and under-canopy style are the white-headed leaf monkey feeding style. The former was often used. Temperature is important factor effecting the feeding style choice of white-headed leaf monkey. Exploratory feeding and Learn feeding are two special feeding behaviors. It is two kinds of feeding behaviors are relate to the age stage of the white-headed leaf monkey。 2,Feeding peak of the white-headed leaf monkey varied seasonally. The feeding peak in summer shows earlier and the variation of the scope of feeding time more larger than other seasons. The daily feeding peak is often more than twice in summer. 3, 82 plant species made up the diet of the white-headed leaf monkey to date. They accounted for 48.5% of the whole vegetation community in the habitat. The diet varied seasonally. Leaves are the main diet ranging from 53.3% in July to 93.2% in December. Fruit component account for 43% in its diet in summer. 4 ,13 plants species were main diet. They are Celtis sinesis pers,Meliosma henryi,Cudrania cochinchinensis,Ficus gibbosa,Ehretia tsangii,Loranthus pentapetalus,Orxylon indicum,Broussonetia papyrifera,Ficus paraifolia,Lonicera japonica Thunb, Ficus microcarpa,Ophiopgon chingi,Sterculia nobilis.Smith,Pithecellobium clypearia.Benth,5 ,Water in food was the main water resource for the white-headed leaf monkey. Comparison of the water contain between 10 more preference plant species and less preference ones was attempted and no significant difference (F=11.00, P=0.06) was found between them, which showed water contain in food was not the main factor affecting the monkeys selection strategy. 6,Crude fiber contain in food varied from 13.00% to 46.44%, there was no significant difference of crude contain between 10 more preference species and 10 less preference ones (F=2.17,P=0.157), which showed crude fiber contain in food was not the main factor affecting the monkeys selection strategy.7 ,The crude protein contain in leaves varied from 9.33% to 29.9%. We compared the crude protein contain of 10 more preference foods with 10 less preference ones, we found there was significant difference (F=4.80, P=0.04) between them. The leaf crude protein of preference food and the main diet of white-headed leaf monkey range from 15 to 20 percent. This showed crude protein was the main factor affecting the monkey's selection strategy.8,The food patch area of white-headed leaf monkey is average 0.433 ha and varied from 0.179 ha to o.772 ha。The food patch area was no significant relation to either food patch utilization ratio and food patch resource quality level. The food patch utilization ratio and resource quality level, however, was direct positively related.
