Exploit And Application Of MapService On ArcIMS

WebGIS(Web Geographical Information System) can be defined as "GIS on the Web", and it's interactive, distributed, dynamic display system. Because of many advantage and popularity, WebGIS will play an important role of GIS development in the future.ArcIMS is new generation Internet Mapping Service, it is a framework for distributing GIS capabilities via the Internet. It is able to establish a common explorer platform for exchange of Web-enabled geographic information system (GIS) data and services. ArcIMS includes a wide variety of ESRI server-side technology and provides a unique data integration potential via certain clients. This paper consists of three sections:(1) the original ,development and the basic theory of the WebGIS. distributed technology; the realizing ways(2) ArcIMS 's features, function and network structures; how ArcIMS communicates; the difference between HTML Viewer and Java Viewer.(3) Application and exploit of ArcIMS .- customizing HTML Viewer and Java Viewer ; creating thematic; modifying attribute data display; creating hyperlinks; changing projection; establishing NDCPP visual information system.
