On Main Achievements Of Entomology And Its Dynamics In The People's Republic Of China

The research of entomology in China began in the early 20th century. But its main achievements were obtained in the second half of the 20th century. Since 1949, Chinese entomologists have not only made many breakthroughs in basic research, but also contributed largely to the development of national economy.But until now, we are still short of a systematic study of the history of entomology in modern China, especially of the relationship between entomology and the development of society. The present research should be conductive to fill this vacancy.On the basis of abundant documents, the paper applies the methods of comparative and metric analysis, combines qualitative analysis with the quantitative as well as internal historical study with the external.The development of entomology in modern China could be divided into three periods. Firstly, the present paper summarizes the achievements of main branches of entomology in each period, e.g. insect taxonomy, insect physiology, insect ecology, agricultural entomology, forest entomology, medical entomology, etc. Secondly, the paper probes into the internal relationship between economy, politics, environment, sustainable development and entomology, and try to reveal the dynamic of the development of entomology in modern China. The factor of economy is believed the most direct force, and politics is the necessary guaranty, while sustainable development is the direction of this subject.
