With the wild application of quantitive methods and information approach, its research fields widening and ecology theoretical system perfecting gradually, landscape ecology has been the world frontier and the studying hotspot. Based on remote sensing images in 1988, 1995 and 2002, the principle of landscape ecology and the techniques of RS and GIS, this paper analyzes comprehensively urban landscape pattern changes and driving factors in Zhengzhou city by remote sensing image interpretation, landscape pattern indexes for selection and calculation, stepwise regression analysis. In addition, it puts forward some countermeasures for optimization of landscape ecological pattern, combining with ecological optimizing principles of diversity, integrity, continuity and so on.The main conclusions are as follows:(1) The area of Construction Land increased rapidly while that of cultivated land decreased significantly. Construction land area increased 85.95km2 in 1988-2002, which was transformed mainly from the resident and irrigable land.(2) The Patch Characteristics of urban Landscape changed obviously. The patch number, the edge density, the diversity index and the fragmentation index of landscape increased by 28.82%, 9.64%, 0.97% and 14.63% respectively, while the patch fractal dimension decreased from 0.14 in 1988 to 0.12 in 2002, which mean that the who1e shape turned irregular and the fragment of the landscape degree became serious.(3) Human activities are the main factors causing the landscape pattern's changes, which has important influence on the urban landscape recently. Urban expansion enteres fast growing period from 2000, and it centralizes mainly within 3rd ring road. Based on the driving forces analysis of Urban expansion, the results showes that physical geography condition is the restrictive factor, and social economy and traffic condition are the decisive factors, and urban planning and policy guidance are the key factors.(4) Combining with ecological optimization principles of diversity, integrity, continuity and so on, some specific countermeasures are presented, for example, Pursuing cultural development strategy to mold city scene beautifully, optimizing urban structure and layout to promote coordinative development, strengthening eco-construction to build favorable ecological environment, etc.This paper consists of eight parts as follows:Part I: Preface. The study background, contents and meaning, methods and technical route of this research are narrated.Part II: Research development. Research progress on urban landscape ecology at home and abroad is reviewed, and particularly the former`s deficiency and developing trend are pointed out.Part III: Theoretical basis. Concept and theoretical system of urban landscape ecology are briefly introduced, including the conceptions of landscape and landscape ecology, urban landscape and urban landscape ecology, landscape pattern and process, and the basic theories of hierarchical scale, spatial heterogeneity, self -organized theory, and so on.Part IV: The general situation of study area, including natural conditions, society-economy situations and development history of Zhengzhou City.Part V: Research methods. We mainly set forth classification of urban landscape, remote sensing image interpretation and classification, the selection of landscape indexes.Part VI: Main results, including landscape pattern changes, patch changes, the spatial configuration of urban construction land, and speed, intensity and driving mechanism of urban expansion.Part VII: The ecological optimization analysis of urban landscape, including principles and countermeasures of landscape ecological optimization.Part VIII: The main results and research prospects are discussed.
