Comparative Study On Thought Of Science And Technology Of Marcuse And Habermas

Science and technology had brought gospel to mankind, simultaneously bringing disaster to mankind. Marcuse and Habermas both had their own deep and original cognition about science and technology, and about science and technology's impact on the society. They had grasped human's lifeline in the technological times, finding the possibility to retrieve the human race from the technology swamp.The body of the reseach is composed of five parts. This paper in the first part has mainly analyzed the similarities and differences of theoretical source of Marcuse and Habermas'thought of science and technology. The paper in the second part has objectively combed Marcuse and Habermas'views on science and technology, then on the basis of that, the part has contrasted their thought about the essence of technology and science. This article in the third part has mainly examined Marcuse and Habermas'view of society on science and technology. Marcuse thought that with the development of science and technology, science and technology had already become a new society controlling type which had led to one-way degree person, one-way degree politics and one-way degree thought and culture, and he had carried on the heartless critique to technology. Habermas believed that with the development of science and technolog, the science and technology had grown to be the first productive forces, obtaining dominant basis of legitimacy, growing to be a new invisible ideology; finally it had led to the colonization of life living world. The article in the fourth has examined the comparison of prospect on science and technology. While technology in the negative, Marcuse also thought the technology was the final power that urged the humanity to move the free liberation, giving the technology full affirmation; thus Marcuse would portray one with the hope writing style to use the new science and technology to substitute technological rationality in order to realize the free happy blueprint. Habermas believed the rationality of science and technology itself had created the colonization of life living world. Thus we should criticize science and technology itself instead of the capitalist system. Later, he turned to the contact behavior theory, in all attempt to integrate the tool rationality into the contact rationality. The paper in the fifth part has analyzed positive and limitation of views on scientice and technology of Marcuse and Habermas, and then further explained their views have the realistically enlightening significance on how we understand ourselves and our country's modernization process.In short, deeply and comparatively researching thought of science and technology of Marcuse and Habermas, would help us fully understand the essence and the aftermaths of sci-tech civilization and futher help build up one kind of comparatively new rational values on science and technology, that is, the science and technology's views of sustainable development. The sustainable development's view on science and technology would reach a harmony human race with nature, society and himself.
