Shexian is located in the east foot of Taihang Mountain and in the west of Handan City, Hebei Province, with a total area of 1489 km2. With the continuous development of the national economy, the demand for water increases day by day. Because of excessive extraction of groundwater, it results in a large area of water table dropping, the formation of cone of depression, deterioration of water quality, a large number of shallow wells scrapping and a series of environmental geological problems. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate groundwater resources of Shexian, plan groundwater resources and research countermeasures of groundwater resources protection.The article is focused on groundwater resources of Shexian, researches the current situation of development and utilization of groundwater, points out the problems in the process of development and utilization,evaluates the quantity of groundwater resources with excretion method and the recharge method,and evaluates groundwater quality with the investigation of groundwater environmental conditions in Shexian and measured data of monitoring points.Based on the analysis of regional hydro-geological conditions and groundwater characteristics of karst area and by the use of groundwater numerical model Visual MODFLOW, Ground Water numerical model of Shexian Dongfeng Lake spring area is established. Through the identification and validation of mathematical models, the hydro-geological parameters is determined, which basically reflects the correct hydrological law in calculation region, and can be used to simulate and predict groundwater regime in the spring area and spring flow domain changes.Based on water resources assessment, it predicts the county's available water supply and water demand of the planning lever year and the analysis of supply and demand balance, the quantity of available water supply , water demand and the surplus and deficiency of water at the different assure rates of the planning lever year is obtained. Finally, the groundwater resources planning and the Strategy of protection is researched, through the relationship between ET and groundwater, the goal ET is established, and then the efficient water-utilizing planning is made, which providing a scientific basis for the development and utilization of karst water in Shexian.
