Facing the constantly changing external environment, the stable and healthy development of innovation ecosystem is of great significance to the implementation of open innovation and the enhancement of innovation performance of enterprises, and also plays an important role in the development of regional, national and even international innovation. Therefore, how to improve the stability of innovation ecosystems in dynamic environments deserves in-depth exploration. It has been pointed out that the dominant player has an important impact on the stability of the ecosystem, however, most of the existing innovation ecosystem research focuses on technology firms as the leaders of the ecosystem, and there is still a lack of understanding of how innovation intermediaries, which are located behind the scenes of innovation, can affect the stability of their ecosystems. With the deepening of transnational innovation cooperation, enterprises of different scales often cross organizational and geographical boundaries with the power of transnational innovation intermediaries(TIIs),and seek complementary innovation resources such as knowledge, technology, and markets globally to achieve sustainable development. The role of TIIs as ecosystem leaders and orchestrators has increasingly gained attention from academics and the industry. Therefore,it is of great theoretical and practical significance to study the impact mechanisms on the stability of TIIs-led ecosystems.Based on this, this dissertation focuses on how TIIs operating in cross-cultural contexts affect the stability of their dominant ecosystems, and explores the impact mechanisms of the stability of TII-oriented ecosystems based on the theoretical foundations of dynamic capabilities, resource orchestration, and co-evolution.There are three sub research questions:(1)What are the influencing factors of stability of TII-led ecosystem?(2)What is the relationship between these factors and to what extent do they influence each other?(3)In order to enhance the stability of transnational innovation intermediary-led ecosystems, how can TIIs cope with changing external environments and how can governments target their support policies?Based on the research path of grounded theory, this dissertation firstly selects four typical and representative cases of TIIs,and analyses and extracts the influencing factors of the stability of the ecosystem led by them based on the data and information collected from multiple channels through open coding, spindle coding, and selective coding. We then clarify the logical relationship of these factors and follow the logical line of“capability-behavior-result” to form a preliminary framework of the influence model of TII-led ecosystem stability.Secondly, based on case studies and theoretical deductions, this dissertation puts forward research hypotheses and constructs a theoretical model of the stability of TII-led ecosystems. Finally, the theoretical model was empirically tested. There are four research conclusions:(1)The factors affecting the stable development of TII-led ecosystems include the dynamic capabilities of transnational innovation intermediaries, resource orchestration, environmental uncertainty and institutional support,of which dynamic capabilities include networking capability,cross-cultural capability and innovation capability, and resource orchestration includes cross-border resource integration and cross-border resource matching;(2)the dynamic capabilities of TIIs are conducive to promoting the stability of innovation ecosystems.Cross-border resource integration and cross-border resource matching play a mediating role in the relationship between the dynamic capabilities of TIIs on the stability of their dominant innovation ecosystems.(3)Institutional support plays a significant positive moderating role in the relationship between cross-border resource matching and innovation ecosystem stability, but the moderating effect in the relationship between cross-border resource integration and innovation ecosystem stability is not significant.(4)The moderating effect of environmental uncertainty in the relationship between dynamic capabilities and resource orchestration is mixed, specifically, environmental uncertainty plays a significant negative moderating role in the relationship between networking capability and resource orchestration, environmental uncertainty plays a significant positive moderating role in the relationship between cross-cultural capability and crossborder resource integration. However, the moderating effect of environmental uncertainty on the relationship between cross-cultural capability and cross-border resource matching, and the relationship between innovation capability and resource orchestration was not significant. The main research contributions of this dissertation are:(1)Expanding and enriching the theoretical research on innovation ecosystems.By exploring the influence mechanism of TII-led ecosystem stability,it clarifies how the transnational innovation intermediary,as the ecosystem leader, affects the stability of the ecosystem, and fills in the lack of research on the stability of TII-led innovation ecosystems.(2)Combining the dynamic capability theory with the resource orchestration theory, emphasising the importance of resource orchestration in the stability of innovation ecosystems led by TIIs,unveiling the important path of the dynamic capability of TIIs in the stability of innovation ecosystems, and expanding the theoretical study of resource orchestration at the ecosystem level.(3)It enriches the theory of dynamic capabilities, advances the research on the dynamic capabilities of TIIs,and also deepens the understanding of how innovation intermediaries play a role at the ecosystem level in cross-cultural contexts.(4)It explores the boundary conditions for the stability of ecosystems led by TIIs,deepens the theoretical understanding of the stability of ecosystems dominated by TIIs,and provides theoretical guidance for TIIs to develop in uncertain environments and for governments to formulate targeted support policies.
