| In an increasingly complex and ever-changing environment, business model innovation of enterprises is an important and difficult strategic risk decision. It is necessary to not only solve the problem of how enterprises should adopt business model innovation, but also study the key factors that affect the effect of business model innovation.Under the trend of rapid development of the enterprise, when senior executives have a high level of awareness, they are often able to accurately identify the advantages and disadvantages of the enterprise’s environment, reasonably allocate internal and external resources, timely and efficiently adjust the enterprise’s strategic deployment, and actively promote the innovation of the enterprise’s business model to achieve the goal of creating value; On the contrary, when senior executives are not aware enough, they will not only miss opportunities for enterprise development, but also exacerbate the mismatch of internal and external resources of the enterprise, bringing irreversible disadvantages to the enterprise.Senior executives’ cognition is the most essential factor behind the enterprise’s value activities, strategic deployment and other enterprise behaviors,as well as an important driving factor for enterprise business model innovation. Therefore, this paper takes executives’ cognition as the starting point, and deeply analyzes the mechanism and type of action of executives’ cognition on the process of enterprise business model innovation. At the same time,we will further study the heterogeneity of the above mechanisms based on the practice of Chinese enterprises and the classification of enterprise types according to the redundant resource endowment,so as to provide targeted theoretical guidance for enterprises’business model innovation decisions. Therefore, based on the practical needs of enterprise business model innovation,it is of practical significance and theoretical research value to carry out theoretical and empirical research on the mechanism of executives’ cognition affecting enterprise business model innovation. On the basis of combing relevant research literature,in order to deepen the mechanism research and empirical analysis of the impact of executives’ cognition on business model innovation, this paper first proposes the limitations and deficiencies of existing research based on social cognition theory,higher-order theory and resource-based theory, focusing on the core issues of this paper;Secondly, through case analysis, the core elements of senior executives’cognition in the three dimensions-strategic consensus, interactive memory and reflective regulation were taken, and the mechanism and extent of each element’s role in enterprise business model innovation and its dependence on enterprise internal redundant resources were identified, that is,the regulatory effect of enterprise internal redundant resources was analyzed; Then, the cross case comparative analysis method is used to explore the effect path of executive cognition on efficient business model innovation and innovative business model innovation; Finally, based on the survey sample of 366 enterprises, the multiple regression analysis method is used to empirically test the theoretical research models of "cognition-(resources)innovation" and "executive cognition-business model innovation-enterprise performance",and deepen the heterogeneity analysis of non precipitation redundant resources and precipitation redundant resources.Based on the above analysis, the main research conclusions of this paper include the following three points:First, the three dimensions of senior executives’ cognition can directly affect different types of business model innovation.Specifically, strategic consensus, interactive memory, and reflective adjustment can positively promote efficient business model innovation and innovative business model innovation;Second, sedimentary redundant resources play a negative role in regulating the relationship between different dimensions of executives’ cognition and efficient business model innovation.Third, when the enterprise has abundant non precipitation redundant resources, the path of high performance and innovative business model innovation induced by senior executives’ cognition will replace the path of high performance and efficient business model innovation. The possible research contributions of this paper are as follows:First,it breaks through the previous discussion of the economic consequences of business model innovation and is based on the discussion of the driving factors of business model innovation. This paper takes the new perspective of executives’ cognition as the starting point, deeply discusses the mechanism of executives’ cognition affecting enterprise business model innovation, and reveals how executives promote the formation of enterprise business model innovation through their cognition. This discovery not only helps to tap the initiative of executives in the process of business model innovation, but also enriches the relevant research results on the formation process of enterprise business model innovation.Second, under the research framework of"executive cognition business model innovation",this paper discusses the regulatory role of redundant resources in executive cognition promoting business model innovation from the resource level, constructs the research paradigm of "cognition(resources)innovation",enriches the theoretical boundary of the research on the formation of enterprise business models, and strengthens the theoretical interpretation of the joint role of cognition and resources.Third,we will further explore the role path of "executive cognition-business model innovationperformance".When an enterprise has non precipitation redundant resources, there is a substitution between efficient business model innovation and innovative business model innovation, which expands the relevant research on the results of executive cognition induced business model innovation. |
