| In the context of the new round of industrial technology revolution, innovation has become the first driving force of enterprise development. In recent years, although China has made outstanding achievements in the field of innovation, compared with developed countries,we are still constrained in some core technologies,so we still need to increase our research efforts and investment in innovation to solve the "neck" problem. With the continuous improvement of China’s market structure and the emergence of national policy advantages, most of China’s enterprises have established abundant slack resources, but how these slack resources can create more room for growth and promote the further development of enterprises has not yet been well solved. The theory of corporate behaviour suggests that when enterprises build up a large number of slack resources, they can stimulate the vitality of innovation because the emergence of heterogeneous knowledge, technology, products and services can make them stand out in the fierce competition.Based on this view, scholars have conducted in-depth research on the relationship between organisational slack and corporate innovation, but the conclusions obtained are not uniform. In this paper, the reasons for the disagreement include the following: firstly, the relationship between a particular type of slack and corporate innovation has been discussed purely;secondly, less attention has been paid to the fact that different nature of innovative behaviour requires different resources;thirdly, the discussion of contextual factors has not been sufficient.Based on the above analysis, this paper further refines the study of the relationship between slack resources and corporate dual innovation by placing unabsorbed slack resources and absorbed slack resources with different characteristics,as well as exploratory and exploitative innovation behaviours of firms, under the same analytical framework and discussing the heterogeneous effects of slack resources with different properties on different innovation behaviours of firms. At the same time, this study introduces market power into the research framework of slack resources and corporate dual innovation, and discusses the influence of different degrees of market power on the relationship between slack resources and corporate dual innovation, which is conducive to clarifying the contextual factors and boundary conditions of different nature of slack resources affecting corporate dual innovation behaviour. This paper proposes relevant hypotheses based on a thorough literature review and theoretical research, and selects Chinese A-share listed companies from 2010-2021 as the research object for empirical research. The findings of the study are as follows.First, unabsorbed slack resources have a significant positive impact on exploratory innovation;they have a significant negative impact on exploitative innovation.Second, absorbed slack resources have a significant negative impact on exploratory innovation;they have a significant positive impact on exploitative innovation.Thirdly, market power can reduce the positive impact of unabsorbed slack resources on exploratory innovation and enhance the negative impact of unabsorbed slack resources on exploitative innovation.Fourthly, market power significantly weakens the negative impact of absorbed slack resources on exploratory innovation and strengthens the positive impact of absorbed slack resources on exploitative innovation. The innovations of this paper are the following two: firstly,it further refines the study between organisational slack and corporate innovation by talking about the heterogeneous effects of slack resources of different nature on corporate dual innovation;secondly,it introduces market forces into the framework of the study of the relationship between the two, which is conducive to further revealing the boundary conditions between slack resources and dual innovation. |
