| Yiqie Jing Yinyi(一切经音义),which is written by Huilin(慧琳),a monk in the Tang Dynasty(唐朝),also named Huilin Yinyi(慧琳音义),is a comprehensive collection of the Sound and Meaning of Buddhist Sutras in ancient china.The book is rich in quotations,including a large number of dictionaries,classic works and annotation materials before the Middle Tang Dynasty(中唐).It has considerable values in the studies of Chinese characters,chinese phonetics,chinese vocabulary,textual collation as well as in the gatherings of lost classics.This thesis is a comparative textual study of Sanli(三礼)sutras and annotations cited in Huilin Yinyi(慧琳音义).To start with,these citations in Huilin Yinyi(慧琳音义)inscribed by Gaoli were compared with the original Sanli(三礼)version printed by Clan Xu(徐氏)in Wu Perfecture(吴郡)in Jiajing(嘉靖)period of the Ming Dynasty(明朝).On this basis,we examined the source of the citations,make detailed analysis and correction of the variant text,and dig deeper int the research value of the citations.In this thesis,we have collected 980 entries of Zhouli(周礼),140 entries of Yili(仪礼),1089 entries of Liji(礼记),and 5 entries named Li(礼)but whose source could not be determined,making a total of 2214 entries.By comparison,the provenances of 2080 entries were determined.On this basis,346 quotations from Huilin were corrected using the original Sanli(三礼)version.We also made comparisions between the original version and the citations from Huilin,and analyzed555 different texts from six perspectives:ancient and modern characters,Interchangeable characters,taboo characters,variant characters,synonyms and alliterative words,in order to show the general appearance of the original text of Sanli(三礼)used by Huilin.This thesis elaborate the research vlue of Sanli(三礼)citations in Huilin Yinyi(慧琳音义)from three aspects.First is the value in research of ritualism.Some of the variant text reflected Huilin’s(慧琳)comprehending of Sanli(三礼),perserving different interpretation about Sanli(三礼)sutras in the Tang Dynasty(唐代).Next is the value in study of traditional Chinese linguistics.In writing the Yinyi(音义),Huilin(慧琳)paid special attention to clarifying the change of characters and to correcting the common characters.Therefore,with the help of the headwords and notes in Huilin Yinyi(慧琳音义),the citations are useful in discussing the evolution of words and characters in the Middle Tang Dynasty(中唐).Finaly is the value in philology study of Sanli(三礼).Although Huilin’s citations are not standardized,which means,there are a lot of section quotations and intentional quotations,but some of the lost texts and commentaries are preseved,which is helpful for the study of the collection,version and collation of Sanli(三礼). |
