The Kanjing Temple grotto is located at the north side of Wanfo Valley on the East Bank of Longmen Yi River in Luoyang,Henan Province,between leigutai site and Xiangshan temple,and across the river from Lushena Buddha in Fengxian Temple in West Longmen Mountain.The Kanjing Temple grotto is square Grotto with the door facing west.On the lower halves of the north,East and south walls of the grotto,there are 29 relief statues of real people and other large Ancestral masters horizontally surrounding the wall in turn.There are a few unfinished small seated Buddha statues and lotus Bodhisattva statues on the South and North walls of the grotto.There is a small Buddha niche on the upper left of the east wall.There are two Bodhisattva niches on both sides of the grotto door,huge lotus caisson and six flying Apsaras statues on the top of the grotto.There are no other statues in the grotto.The relief sculptures of 29 Ancestral masters are the main statues in the Kanjing Temple grotto.Their layout,modeling language and artistic style are very rare in the history of Chinese Grotto Art.This paper studies the art of the 29 reliefs of Ancestral masters in the grotto of Kanjing temple.It will take the development history of Buddhism as the Sutra and the artistic aesthetics as the latitude,analyzing its artistic achievements from the professional perspective of sculpture art.The thesis is divided into five chapters.The first chapter expounds the location relationship between Kanjing temple and Longmen Grottoes,the spatial layout of kanjing temple,the shape of grottoes,and the statue content and art form of Kanjing temple;The second chapter analyzes the field construction and visual effects of Kanjing temple,and compares the Kanjing Temple Grotto with other Grottoes with similar statues in different periods in China.The third chapter is the research on the relationship between the Kanjing Temple grotto and the Zen in the Tang Dynasty,including the sorting out of the sectarian beliefs in the Longmen Grottoes,the religious origin between the Kanjing temple and the Zen in the Tang Dynasty,and the identity inference of the 29 "Arhats" in the Kanjing Temple Grotto.The fourth chapter is the art research on the relief statue of the founder in the Kan Jing temple grotto,in which a systematic study is carried out on the aspects of the Buddhist founder portrait and the statue of the Tang Dynasty,the pink style of the statue and the inheritance of the carving skills,the modeling language of the statue,the transformation of spatial relations,the treatment of rhythm and contradictions,the individuality,charm,temperament and artistic exaggeration of the statue.The fifth chapter is a summary of the artistic aesthetics and statue achievements of the Kanjing Temple grotto,which combs the aesthetic characteristics of the Kanjing Temple grotto and the artistic style of the relief patriarch,analyzes the spiritual power of its artistic innovation and artistic self-confidence,discusses the relationship between its artistic expression and religious belief,and finally summarizes its uniqueness and artistic achievements in the history of grotto art.
