In the desert steppe of Inner Mongolia,the breeding conditions of livestock are mainly natural grazing.The main plants are drought-tolerant plants,including Allium polyrhizum Turczex Regel(APR)and Artemisia commutata Bess(ACB)plants.The mutton of sheep eating the medicinal plant,such as APR and ACB,may have high content of active ingredients of nutritional compounds.Many kinds of drought-tolerant plants on the grasslands of Inner Mongolia have the biological and medicinal activity.If the edible plants have obvious biological activities and medicinal effects,the consumption of beef and mutton containing the chemicals of drought-tolerant plants may also have certain impact on human health.Therefore,it is important to study the biomedical activity of the drought-tolerant plants consumed by cattle and sheep in Inner Mongolia,PR China.In this study,two kinds of plant that are often eaten by sheep in the Mongolian grassland such as APR and ACB were systematically studied.The physical and chemical properties of APR and ACB were analyzed.The hypoglycemic activity and hypolipidemic effect of APR and ACB in animals were studied.Two invention patents were obtained and two academic papers were published.The first chapter introduces the research objects of the drought-tolerant plants Allium polyrhizum and Artemisia commutata Bess,as well as the basic concepts of blood lipids and blood sugar.The second chapter introduces the chemical composition of APR and ACB.The protein,fat,soluble polysaccharide,vitamin,calcium,sodium,potassium,manganese,zinc,iron and amino acids of the APR and ACB were found to be higher than those of plants such as scallions,leeks and Artemisia commutata Bess.The third chapter introduces the hypoglycemic studies of APR and ACB in vivo.In the study of hypoglycemic model in animals,APR and ACB have very significant effect on the concentration of blood glucose in mice.It was firstly discovered that APR and ACB significantly inhibited the increase of the concentration of blood glucose in vivo.The fourth chapter introduces the hypoglycemic activities of APR and ACB in the type 2diabetes animal experiments in vivo.Wistar rats were selected for animal experiments,and were divided into four groups:blank group,model group,positive control group,and drug-administered group(APR and ACB).After 8 week experiment,blood was taken from the femoral artery of the rats,and various indexes were tested and determined.It was found that the blood glucose concentrations of the administration group(APR and ACB)were significantly reduced(<0.01)comparing with that of the model group.The results of experoment showed that the P value of the APR group was 1.33.×10-8,the P value of ACB group was 2.23×10-11,and there was no significant difference(0.05<P<1)comparing with that of positive control group.So it is confirmed that APR and ACB significantly reduced the blood glucose concentration of the type 2 diabetes animals in vivo.Through the pathological section of the pancreas,it was found that APR and ACB had the effect on protecting islet morphology,respectively.The fifth chapter introduces the hypolipidemic study of APR and ACB in vivo.In the experiment of hypolipidemic model in animals,it was found that APR and ACB had the very significant reducing effect on blood lipid concentration.The serum total cholesterol(TC)and total triglyceride(TG)of the rat having APR and ACB and that of the model group were significantly different.Compared with model group,the group eating APR and ACB were significantly reduced the serum low density lipoprotain(LDL).The P value of APR group was 4.07×10-8 and the P value of ACB group was 2.26×10-7.The sixth chapter introduces the effects of APR and ACB on the routine blood tests in the rat model of type 2 diabetes.The results showed that APR and ACB groups had normal numbers of white blood cells and lymphocytes.The experimental results of liver and pancreas in vivo showed that APR and ACB had the protective effects on liver and islts.It is systematically studied the drought-tolerant plants APR and ACB for the first time,and the chemical components and physicochemical properties of APR and ACB were analyzed,and then the biological activities of APR and ACB for reducing the concentration of blood glucose and blood lipid in vivo were discovered and reported firstly.
