In the 18 th and 19 th centuries,the Medical School of the University of Edinburgh was famous all over the world.In 1726,people with lofty ideals in Edinburgh imitated the medical education concept of Leiden University in the Netherlands and established the Edinburgh Medical School.The Medical School continued to explore and innovate in terms of enrollment methods,curriculum settings,clinical teaching,and teacher systems and had attracted many foreign medical students to study here.In the second half of the 18 th century,medical school rose to become the center of medical education in the world,and had a profound impact on medical education in many countries such as Europe,North America,the Oceania and Asia.The medical school,which flourished until the early 19 th century,began to face a series of problems.Although the medical school after the positive reform was not like the heyday,but it had entered a new stage of steady development.This thesis takes Edinburgh Medical School as the research object.It attempts to explore the background,historical basis and development track of the University of Edinburgh’s School of Medicine,and on this basis,to dig out the deep-seated reasons for its development as a medical education center,and to summarize the experience,in order to provide reference and inspiration for the reform of medical education in China.In addition to the introduction,the full text is divided into six chapters.The first chapter mainly analyzes the historical background of the establishment and development of the University of Edinburgh School of Medicine.The second chapter traces the historical origin of the educational concept of the Edinburgh Medical School.The third chapter discusses the initial period of medical school.It mainly explores the tortuous course of the establishment of the medical school,the setting of the teaching system and the establishment of affiliated teaching hospitals.The chapter four conducts research on the flourishing period of the medical school.It focuses on the three most prominent aspects,namely the outstanding famous doctors,the curriculum plan and degree system,and the clinical teaching that combines theory and practice.The fifth chapter is the bottleneck period of the development of medical school in the early 19 th century.The situation that the University of Edinburgh Medical School dominated medical education was broken in the first half of the 19 th century.The development of medical school was facing many difficulties.In order to maintain their reputation and ensure the quality of teaching,medical school have adopted various countermeasures.The sixth chapter discusses the far-reaching influence and enlightenment of Edinburgh University Medical School.After becoming a magnetic field of medical education,medical school had influenced the development of medical education in many countries such as Europe,North America,and Oceania.Although the case of the Edinburgh Medical School is far away from now,it follows the positive interaction between internal and external laws of education,actively learning from the advanced ideas of European universities,conforming to the development of the times,actively committed to the absorption of famous teachers,paying attention to the training of clinical practice ability of medical students and other ideas,which still has certain reference significance for the reform and innovation of medical education in China.
