| With the increasing densification of cities and the pace of life, social psychological problems have become increasingly prominent. As the main space for people’s daily activities, the positive psychological benefits of the interior have become an appeal. As a green biomass material, wood has attracted more and more attention in the field of construction industry and psychological research in terms of indoor application and psychological benefits.Although the positive impact of wood on people has been widely recognized, and a large number of studies have investigated the health benefits of wood environment, there are few studies on how wood used in construction affects people’s psychological benefits, and the relevant studies from the perspective of environmental restoration are even less.Based on the foregoing background, this study is based on improving the healthy quality of the indoor environment, from the perspective of environmental restoration, taking wood space as the research object, aiming to explore the law of indoor wood space surface changes on visual psychological benefits. After clarifying the research question, combined with the relevant theories of environmental psychology, this paper combs the characteristics of wood, the design elements of wood space surface and the elements of wood visual environment perception through literature research, and then the theoretical model of the indoor wood space surface is sorted out according to the relevant theories of environmental psychology. Then, through empirical research and experimental research, this paper explores the influence mechanism of indoor wood space surface changes on people’s visual preference and perception recovery, and according to the research results, proposes the design strategy of improving the visual psychological benefits of wood indoor environments.Firstly, the study investigates the current situation of psychological consumption and recovery needs of college students,as well as their acceptance of indoor wood space on campus. The survey results show that college students are in a state of continuous psychological consumption and post-stress,but lack the subjective awareness and time to seek recovery. The campus indoor environments has the advantage of providing time benefit for students to recover, but it lacks quality benefit.Through post-use evaluation and pairwise comparison with non-wood space, the significant advantages of campus wood space in audience preference and restorative quality are confirmed, showing that campus wood space can provide effective support for students’ psychological recovery needs.Secondly, through the scale method and eye-tracking experiment, the effect law of wood space surface changes on improving the preference of wood indoor environment was clarified. The experimental results show that the change of the indoor wood space surface has an "inverted U-shaped" relationship with the environmental preference, the wood rate is in the range of 35%-65%,and the wood structure space with 2-3 wood types in 3-4 positions of the space surface has more visual appeal and higher preference. On average, wood space surface changes caused relatively high ratings for naturalness, intimacy, warmth, comfort, and superiority of wood space. In addition, the results also show that when increasing the location and type of wood used in the space surface, people’s preference for wood space with high wood visibility will be improved.Thirdly, through the virtual simulation roaming experiment, the influence path and mechanism of the wood rate and wood application mode on the wood indoor environment perception recovery were revealed. The experimental results show that compared with the application of wood only in the space enclosure surface(wall, ground, roof),the wood indoor environments in which the enclosure surface and the structural surface(beam, column)are simultaneously applied with wood is more effective in relieving mental fatigue. The wood rate of indoor space surface and the wood application mode have a significant positive impact on the perception recovery of people through direct and indirect(naturalness and environmental preference as intermediary factors),and the im pact of the wood rate is greater than that of the wood application mode.Among them, the restorative benefit s of wood indoor environments has an asymmetric "inverted U-shaped" relationship with the wood rate, and an "N-shaped" relationship with the wood application position. When the wood rate of the space surface is 45%-80%,and the wood surface is in the form of semi-enclosed or fully enclosed, the recovery benefits are higher. In addition, the comparison results based on the individual characteristics of the participants showed that there were individual differences in the perception of naturalness, preference and recovery possibility of wood indoor environments, but the effects were not significant. Finally, based on the research results,a wood space design framework is established to enhance the psychological benefits, and the design principles and methods to enhance the visual psychological benefits of indoor wood space surface are proposed. There are three main design principles: moderately control th e wood rate of the space surface, effectively arrange the enclosure degree formed by wood space surface, and increase the visual level of wood space surface. The design methods mainly include: pro-natural design to enhance the space separability, strong structural design to highlight the space order, stereo visual design and innovative design of wood surface to increase the richness and attraction of space. In addition, suggestions for strengthening the visual advantages of the wood space are given in view of the limitation of wood consumption: when there is a small amount of wood, the focus is on creating the visual conspicuous point of the space;when the amount of wood is appropriate, the visual information, charm and order of the space are emphasized;when there is a large amount of wood,it is important to create the visual level, charm and extensibility of the space.
