| The core of design lies in innovation, which encompasses both the creation in unknown domains and the revolution in known domains.Among the m,innovation comes from the intrinsic motivation generated by design thinking. Therefore, finding methods to analyze design thinking becomes a breakthrough point for understanding the generation of innovation. This means that, for implicit design thinking, what method can be used to sort out its characteristics, and then conceptualize and quantify it,and based on this, realize the flexible matching of design thinking elements under collective wisdom is one of the critical research problems of design thinking that need to be solved urgently.Accordingly, this study proposes a method of behavioral interpretation to und erstand design thinking.By analyzing the patterns of thinking under behavioral representations and summarizing the mechanisms of behavioral g uidance,it seeks to achieve flexible regulating of design thinking and enhance the creative vitality in a concept ual generation stage. This study topic was derived from several design thinking research projects that the author participated in and was integra ted and optimized based on the National Social Science Fund Art Proj ect titled "Capture,Cognition, and Interpretation of Design Thinking"(Project No: 22BG126),in which the author participated and relies on in the final stages. This study explores intangible thinking through identifiable behavior and extracts the behavior and thinking characteristics of designers and design teams at different capability levels.Analyzing designers’ multi-dimensional behavioral features in the concept generation stage explains the operation pattern of design thinking.Furthermore, this induces the behavioral rules of high-capability-level designers and condenses them into strategies, models, tools, and methods to guide the behavior of novice designers in collaborative design,th ereby helping to trigger the improvement and upgrading of their design thinkin g.To addresses the issue of constructing an objective and detailed understanding method of implicit design thinking, this study applies theoretical perspectives from behaviorism, management, cognition, design and uses methods such as literature review, experiment, and natural observation. It summarizes the relationship between thinking, cognition, behavior, and determines "behavior" as the core perspective for understanding design thinking in this study. The behavior of design teams in the conceptual generation stage is classified and defined, distinguishing between design behavior and interactive behavior.Furthermore, the attributes of strategies and pattern elements based on be havioral ontology are deduced and construct a "Behavior-Strategy-Pattern"(BSP)behavioral interpretation method summarizes the above three elements. From the perspective of interpretation elements, this study investigates the behavioral usage tendency of designer teams at different capability levels and summarizes the behavioral representation modes in behavior strategies and the comprehensive effect characteristics of behaviors in behavior patterns; To address the cognitive connection issue under the dyna mic change of design thinking, this study t akes design behavior as the primary perspective, and first induces the thinking sharing pattern of design teams.Breaking the continuity of behaviors on a timeline,it analyzes the associated characteristics of behaviors throughout the concept generation stage. Moreover, this study summarizes the thinking evolution pattern of design teams and analyzes the distribution characteristics of behavior in problem and solution domains for different teams; To address the is sue of transforming team conflict into creativity, this study takes interactive behavior as the primary perspective and extracts micro-conflict types based on the micro-conflict segments attribute in the concept generation stage. Moreover, this study summarizes the micro-conflict resolution paths and identifies the micro-conflict dissolution and transformation strategies. It explores the impact and role of different micro-conflict types and resolution methods on the creative transformation of design teams; To address the problem of cognitive limitations of novice design teams, this study based on the above results, constructs a team behavior guidance system that supports the design concept generation stage. It provides methods and tools to guide novice desig ners in using behaviors appropriately, constructing creative concepts, and improving their design skills. The main achievements and innovations of this study are summarized as follows:First, this study establishes the "Behavior-Strategy-Pattern"(BSP)method,which consists of three main elements: designer behavior, behavioral strategies, and behavioral patterns in the concept generation stage. This met hod helps to understand the generation process of design concepts from the fine-grained level of behavior, clarify how the strategies extracted from behavior assist in generating behavior, and interpret the role of behavior from the global perspective of p atterns. Thus, this study’s essential scope and framework of behavioral research were established.By analyzing the concept generation process under collaborative design, this study determined that collaborative design behavior consists of design and interactive behavior.Among them,a design behavior tower based on different behavior focuses was constructed according to design behavior handles primary data in the design process.Furthermore, according to the connection relationship of behavior in dialogue, the types of behavior switches and stimulation were defined. In the research of behavioral ontology, the behavior application, behavior switching type, and behavior stimulation type tendency of designers at different capability levels at individual an d team levels were analyzed and summarized.Their corresponding creativity value trend characteristics in th e design behavior tower were identified. In the research of behavioral strategies, dissociative behaviors include specific measures implemented to c ope with the current design task state, from which design behaviors and interactive behaviors strategies are extracted.Based on this, this study compares the behavioral strategy tendencies of designers at different capability levels and the differences and characteristics of design behaviors under the same strategy. In the research of behavioral patterns, behavioral pattern categories are summarized according to the distribution of design behaviors on the time axis and the proportion characteristics of interactiv e behavior applications.Furthermore, this study compares the pattern characteristics between designers at different capability levels. This study results provide a theoretical basis for a complete and systematic interpretation of the behavioral method system in the concept generation stage.Second, adopting a design behavior perspective, this study investigates the behavioral correlations of thinking sharing and thinking evolution in collaborative design and the "problem-solution" domain. In the analysis of thinking sharing, this study uses the Linkography method to summarize the thinking sharing patterns of design teams at different levels of capability in the concept generation stage.Furthermore,it analyzed the link relationship and behavior tower trend between design behaviors and the impact of interactive behavior on idea continuity. In the analysis of thinking evolution, using the cognitive map method,th is study analyzed the layout and association characteristics of domain components and object components in both time and logic dimensions, summarized the thinking evolution patterns in corresponding dimensions, and sorted out the pattern characteristics and differences between design teams at different levels of capability.According to the domain division, this study explored the behavioral characteristics of design teams at different levels of capability in the problem domain and solution domain.Based on the thinking sharing and evolution rese arch results, this study proposes the "5Hows+"(5H+)deductive structural organization method for solution construction. This method can effectively help designers broaden the depth and breadth of design solutions and increase their logic and systematization. This study results integrated the central thinking dynamic changes in the concept generation process and the behavioral characteristics in this process, which can provide a patterned process reference for design teams to solve complex problems.Third, adopting an interactive behavior perspective,th is study examined the micro-conflict handling paths and creative transformation in the team design concept generation stage. It defined the conflicts triggered by contending b ehaviors in interactive behaviors as micro-conflicts.The causes of inducing micro-conflicts were classified and defined, and a micro-conflict handling method composed of three dimensions: design behavior, interactive behavior, and idea relationship before and after conflict occurrence that finally handled micro-conflicts was proposed.Furthermore, strategies and strategy compass tools that can be used to dissolve or transform micro-conflicts were extracted, providing strategic methods for more accurate and efficient handling of team micro-conflicts.In analyzing the role of micro-conflicts in creative transformation, the study examines the multidimensional evaluation results of team design outcomes and their correlation with micro-conflict types, idea relationships, and coping behaviors. It analyzes the impact of micro-conflict formation and handling on design outcomes, thus assisting the application of micro-conflict strategies. This study findings provide a behavioral perspective on the generation and management of micro-conflicts.By extracting methods and tools,micro-conflicts are transformed from phenomena into opportunities for creative stimulation.Fourth, this study constructs a behavior guidance system that supports novice design teams in the concept generation stage.Using the literature research method, this study summarizes a behavior guidance mechanism in the conceptual generation stage.By combining the mechanism with the BSP method and linking them to previous research findings, the research establishes a behavior guidance system consisting of four main functional modules: problem analysis, solution generation, behavior strategies, and solution evaluation. The system can pro vide corresponding behavioral guidance methods to designers based on the design stage. It utilizes three types of behavior strategies: motivation alignment,micro-conflict transformation, and design process advancem ent, based on the dialogue within the design team,to guide designers in overcoming design challenges. This system can also provide designers with a creative repository, which can provide a basis for optimizing their future concepts or acquiring inspiratio n.By breaking through the "behavior-thinking " channel, from behavior change to lead to thinking change, this study assists novice designers in overcoming their existing cognitive limitations and fostering a paradigm shift in their thinking patterns. In conclusion, this study provides a new research perspective for interpreting design thinking and has signifi cant theoretical and practical value for design thinking analysis and design capability acquisition. At the same time, understanding designers’ thinking processes in solving complex problems is a crucial way to build human-computer collaboration. This study on behavior interpretation can provide a theoretical and methodological basi s for a more accurate understanding of designer behavior,human-computer joint participation in the design process, and overcoming creative difficulties. |
