The Kitchen Design For Aging People Based On Interactive Behavior

China has entered an aging society,while has the largest elderly population in the world.As one of the busiest household areas,a well-designed kitchen is absolutely necessary.However,many kitchens designed for the elderly have lots of problems.For examples,some of them are difficult to use,the accessories may not match with users,the operation is not fluent.The kitchen that has problems can’t meet the requirements of the elderly who want to live independently.This paper first concentrates on the aging situation in China,analyzes the current situation in the field of kitchen design for the elderly,definites the target users: the independent elderly,the elderly with Walker and the elderly with wheelchair.Second,this paper summarizes the theories and documents from the following aspects: interactive behavior,existing research on kitchen design,the characteristics of the elderly.Third,this paper studies the interactive behavior between three types of the elderly and the kitchen,analyzes the interactive behavior of the user’s hands and head in the following six parts: storage area(wall cupboard),storage area(floor cabinet),washing area,pantry area,cooking area and behavior routes,summarizes the design criteria qualitatively.Fourth,in order to explore the internal essence and the mental factors of the users’ behavior,this paper obtains the differences of kitchen requirements for three types of users by acquiring the kitchen design factors,screening the kitchen design factors,building hierarchy,calculating the weights and requirements with Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP)and Principal Component Analysis(PCA).In the end,for the above research,this paper applies the theory into practice,designes the “L-Type kitchen for the elderly” and “Tai Chi concept kitchen”,which can provide reference for the elderly kitchen and related areas.
