Research About Design Behavior Based On Conceptual Sketch

The conceptual design stage is the most creative stage in the product design process.Concept sketch is an important creative medium at this stage,an effective means of conceptual expression,and an important step in turning thinking into a visual image in design activities.Research shows that different designers have different design thinking modes and design behavior laws,and their differences are mainly caused by knowledge,experience,design stimulation and other factors.Nowadays,a large number of literatures use concept sketch as a tool to study designer’s cognition and thinking.And design cognition emphasizes that design thinking can be externalized through sketch.In this study,concept sketch is used as a tool to study designer’s design behavior.Interview,qualitative research and correlation analysis are used to study the characteristics of designer’s behavior reflected in concept sketch.1.This study consists of two experiments.The first experiment is about the content experiment of concept sketch elements.Twenty designers were interviewed and asked to rate the importance of sketch elements at the same time.The frequency of sketch elements is counted,the mean of importance degree is calculated,and the score factor of importance degree is calculated by combining the mean of frequency and importance degree.At the same time,the importance degree of sketch elements is ranked and analyzed,and the definition standard of sketch elements is formulated.2.The second experiment was to study the classification of concept sketches.Three groups of subjects with different experience were invited to participate in the experiment.Referring to previous studies,the sketch elements obtained from interviews were coded and categorized.The sketch elements and characteristics of the subjects were counted,and the relationship between sketch features and sketch elements was established.According to the sketch types,the subjects were divided into three kinds of designers.3.This paper analyses the behavior characteristics of three types of designers,compares them with the existing classification methods,and analyses the differences of design behavior of different experienced designers.The characteristics of designer’s behavior under each sketch category are analyzed,and the advantages of different design behaviors in design activities are discussed.Designer’s concept sketch is influenced by design experience,design knowledge and training experience,and design behavior is influenced by design thinking mode.Based on the experimental results,sketch elements and sketch features are used as the medium to identify the design behavior characteristics of designers.The sketch elements are coded,decomposed and summarized,and the standards of sketch elements are defined.The experimental content of this study can be used as a case basis for decomposition and classification of sketch elements by more scientific methods in the future.This study uses concept sketch to study the design behavior characteristics of designers.Based on the theoretical basis that concept sketch can reflect the design thinking and design behavior of designers,it can be used as a new direction to study concept sketch and design thinking.
