The creation of marriageable needlework,as a unique cultural phenomenon formed in the ancient Chinese ritual social context,fully maps the Chinese nation’s institutional thoughts,folk psychology,and aesthetic concepts related to marriage.Being the most solemn female creation art phenomenon in the process of life rituals,it harbors rich design wisdom and distinct female aesthetic tastes,representing the high achievement of ancient women’s handicraft skills,and embodies the culmination of marriageable needlework art.Current research on the "creation of marriageable needlework" is scattered across the fields of costume or folk art,without regional and systematic research results.Therefore,this study takes the "creation of marriageable needlework" as the research object and focuses on the spatiotemporal background of "Jiangnan in the Qing Dynasty".Based on design studies,combining related theories in folklore,art,history,and aesthetics,it unfolds a three-in-one research perspective of "human-object-situation" and carries out research exploration in four aspects: ecology,type,image,and thought.Firstly,through the literature review,the cultural background and causes of the prosperity of Jiangnan marriageable needlework creation in the Qing dynasty are explored.Secondly,through field investigations of tangible objects and literature evidence,the type and form features of Jiangnan marriageable needlework creation in the Qing Dynasty are analyzed.Thirdly,through interdisciplinary studies and detailed reading of tangible samples,the design features and design principle of the physical elements of Jiangnan marriageable needlework in the Qing Dynasty are summarized.Lastly,based on the aforementioned research,the creation thought and contemporary values hidden behind Jiangnan marriageable needlework creation in the Qing Dynasty are elucidated.Through the above research,the following findings have been discovered:(1)The "ecology" of creation: The formation and development of marriageable needlework creation cannot be separated from the unique cultural soil of ancient China.Under the joint influence of the "division of labor in farming and weaving" and "Confucianism",marriageable needlework became an important factor and content in realizing the marriage ideals of ancient women,carrying traditional marriage customs,and constructing traditional marriage life.The prosperous development of this craft in Jiangnan during the Qing Dynasty is closely related to the advantageous natural geographical environment,the promotion of marriage etiquette,and the influence of the social and humanistic environment.(2)The "type" of creation: Based on the marital functional attributes of marriageable needlework creation,it can be divided into three main types: "ceremonial objects," "marriage contract objects," and "emotional tokens," carrying multiple needs related to marriage from "society" to "family" to "individual."(3)The "image" of creation: Behind the formation of the "pattern" of Jiangnan marriageable needlework lies a decorative logic from "image dominance" to "appropriate placement." The generation of this logic is inseparable from the "tool-driven" support of "marriage decoration templates" and "local print books." The "color setting" and "art application" of Jiangnan marriageable needlework are profoundly influenced by official etiquette and local aesthetics,presenting a design law of "integrating etiquette into customs" and the artistic characteristics of "exquisite and abundant." Furthermore,Jiangnan marriageable folklore ballads have the function of creation "maxims," which not only contain the "creation experience" of marriageable needlework summarized by the people over generations,but also closely link the "rules of object use" and "etiquette concepts" in the marriage situation.This serves as an important force in promoting the "holistic" inheritance of the cultural creation of marriageable needlework.(4)The "thought" of creation: The interaction and blending of traditional Jiangnan women’s views on etiquette,aesthetics,and ethics guide the design and expression of the material elements of marriageable needlework.This interaction allows the needlework to embody the values of "interactive etiquette," "blending of elegance and commonness," and "unification of goodness and beauty" within the realm of folk life.It subtly promotes the operation of the etiquette society,the establishment of human ethics,and the consolidation of cultural identity.The inherent "locality," "ceremonial nature," and "folklore nature" of needlework contribute to the vitality of Jiangnan marriageable needlework,allowing it to be actively inherited and developed with high quality in contemporary society.This study systematically explores the creation of Jiangnan marriageable needlework in the Qing Dynasty from four dimensions: ecology,type,image,and thought.To some extent,it expands the research dimensions of "Jiangnan marriageable needlework creation" and "traditional marriage creations," with realistic significance and proactive contribution to the contemporary inheritance of Jiangnan marriageable needlework skills. |
