Research On Derek Wall’s Eco-socialism Thought

Derek Wall,an important representative of the new generation of European ecological socialism,played an important role in promoting the transitional development of ecological socialism from the 1990 s to the 21 st century.The core feature of Derek Wall’s ecological socialism is that he attaches great importance to the anti-globalization movement since the 1990 s.By combining the global ecological perspective of capitalist globalization.Derek Wall forms a unique ecological criticism theory characterized by "disaster capitalism" and with capitalist globalization as the critical object by inheriting and developing Marx’s ecological thought,capital criticism theory,economic theory,and globalization theory.On this basis,guided by historical materialism and based on the basic principles of ecology and socialism,and based on the reflection and criticism of Western Marxism,traditional ecological socialism,and new liberalism,the construction of ecological socialism is injustice lies in capitalism and the globalization practice led by capitalism,it is necessary to replace capitalist globalization with a global green movement and achieve sustainable economic development through a radical "green new deal".Secondly,we should flexibly utilize "revolutionary resources" to establish "inclusive capitalism".Especially,attention should be paid to abandoning the "collusion" between government power and capital power and establishes loose alliances of "groups,political parties,networks,and movements",using trade union organizations to support the green movement,and promoting various methods such as websites,blogs,and movies to jointly promote the green movement.Finally,Derek Wall proposes an ecological socialist transition path characterized by "inclusive capitalism" with a color of compromise.That is to replace capitalist market trade with a "local economy" development model,replace the real capitalist system with green solutions,and revise the capitalist economic system with feminism.At the theoretical level,Derek Wall deeply reveals the essence of contemporary capitalist crises through his comprehensive criticism of Neoliberalism and capitalist globalization practices,and proposes highly constructive solutions based on this,greatly reshapes the guiding position of Marxism on ecological socialism.But objectively speaking,Derek Wall’s ecological socialism ideology also has a certain degree of theoretical flaws.His attempt to transform real capitalism with "inclusive capitalism" and limit "revolution" to minor improvements is undoubtedly a practical compromise and retreat,a revision and regression of Marxism.Nevertheless,we cannot ignore Derek Wall’s criticism of the anti-ecological nature of capitalism and his ecological defense of historical materialism.Derek Wall’s ecological socialism ideology shows us that Marx’s theory still has cross generational explanatory power and scientific nature in the 21 st century.On a practical level,in the late 1990 s,against the historical background of the Western environmental movement and the world socialist movement falling into a slump,Derek Wall’s ecological socialism ideology still adheres to the guiding position of Marxism,firmly believes that socialism still has a bright future,and firmly believes that ecological problems must be solved through socialism.Starting from Marxist perspectives,positions and methods,Derek Wall deeply criticizes the theoretical foundation of Neoliberalism and reveals the ecological disasters brought about by the capitalist led globalization process.Moreover,in the practice of global ecological governance,developed capitalist countries are indifferent to right and wrong and unwilling to undertake corresponding responsibilities and obligations.Based on this,Derek Wall profoundly reveals the root causes of ecological problems in developing countries.Derek Wall’s ecological socialism ideology shares a high sense of contemporary significance with the construction of ecological civilization in socialism with Chinese characteristics.In the context of the global ecological crisis,practice has proven that the old path of "pollution first,governance later" in capitalist countries is no longer feasible.The capitalist ecological modernization path centered on technological governance and the "anti-ecological" nature of the capitalist system have a natural "contradiction".Overall,the core of solving the global ecological crisis is to promote the establishment of a new global political and economic order through political means,and ultimately achieve the transformation of the global ecological governance system.In addition,Derek Wall’s ecological socialism ideology has significant implications for China’s ecological civilization construction.Currently,in the face of various forms of risks,China must,on the basis of reflecting and summarizing historical experience,firmly resist the proposition of free adjustment of Neoliberalism,actively resolve the conflict between economic development and ecological protection,and at the same time,jointly promote the construction of global ecological civilization with the practical initiative of a community with a shared future for mankind and open up a modernization path that transcends the path of Western capitalist modernization and promotes harmonious coexistence between humans and nature,and contribute China’s Programme and wisdom to embarking on a green and sustainable development path for other countries in the world.
