There are some new trends having emerged with the the development of society in the new era:new technologies are emerging,and the life cycle of technology are shortened increasingly.Accurately grasping the development history and innovation trends has become a problem that needs to be solved in all fields of scientific and technological innovation and industrial development.So it is a specific requirement of the new situation for us to sort out the knowledge development lineage and grasp the trend of scientific and technological innovation.However,the huge amount of information in the era of big data and the complex knowledge demand in the new era of big science have made it difficult to clarify the trends of scientific and technological innovation from the huge amount of information.The main path is used to describe the main documents of a certain field and their development undertaking relationship.The main path is used to describe the main body of literature in a field and its development succession.Arranging the main body of literature and development relationships chronologically makes up the main path map of the scientific and technological development of this field.The main path analysis based on the literature citation network can show the details of the development of the knowledge backbone and its interrelationships,stimulate innovative scientific and technological solutions,and provide support for investment policies.This study conducts core node and link analysis based on literature citation network,to explore new representations of the relationships between knowledge nodes,establishing a citation network based on association analysis and path overlay,to construct a discovery model and algorithm for knowledge main path,to explore the innovation of nodes in knowledge main path and the relationship between the link in knowledge main path and weak ties,to use patent and scientific literature bibliographic data for empirical study of main path features,main path discovery models and algorithms.This topic is of great significance for knowledge management,technology evaluation,enterprise technology management and industrial development planning,which can provide methods and tools for science and technology development and trend forecasting,provide decision-making reference for countries and enterprises to make science and technology development strategies.Research of main path discovery method is as below:First of all,to address the problem of inadequate description of literature relationships in traditional main path discovery methods,a knowledge network is established based on the association relationship of literature citations and then simplifies the links to obtain the knowledge main path map through local,global and key-route search algorithms.This method can show the evolution of technology solutions and extract key technologies and literature in the process of knowledge evolution.Compared to basic main path analysis method,this method reduces the risk that key literature will be excluded due to lack of citation relationships.In addition,the method places more emphasis on the central role of highly cited patents,so that core patent are more likely to be included in the main path.Secondly,the main path method relies on direct citation relationships,which leads to the exclusion of some core literature that do not have direct citation relationships from the main path.To address the problem,the main path discovery method based on citation path overlay is attempted.The method combines a simple path constructed from each literature reference with the main path of the entire domain,to some extent,avoiding a risk that some key literature will be excluded because of the lack of citation relationships,and some secondary literature being included in the main path due to direct references to key literature.Thirdly,to address the problem that the basic main path method usually form a single path,which is difficult to describe the branches and the convergence of knowledge streams,this paper propose multiple-source forward local search path,the multiple-sink backward local search path and integrated global search path.These approaches can present more details of the branches and convergence of knowledge,and improve the inclusion and time distribution of key nodes in the main paths.The study of main path characterization is is as below:First of all,improving the algorithm of innovation proposed by Funk and Owensmith,which is used to compare and analyze the innovative nature of the main path node clusters and random literature node clusters in the seven domains.The results indicate the nodes on the main path in the emerging technology field are more innovative;however,compared with the other patent nodes in the field,the nodes on the main path are less innovative.The innovative node on the main path mostly appear in the early stage of technology development,and the highly cited nodes are more innovative.Secondly,The main path in seven domains are obtained by SPLC approach,and the average link strength of main path and random links will be compared to explore the problem that whether the links on the main path is a weak tie or not.The results show that the connection strength of the main path link is stronger than that of the random link in general,and the correlation between the main path nodes is stronger than that of the random link.The above main path feature and discovery method studies were verified with patent data of the USPTO in the past 44 years and SCI scientific bibliographic data.For the main path discovery method,patents data in the field of organic light emitting diodes,fullerene,superconductor and SCI scientific bibliography are used to verify the effectiveness of the method in terms of content analysis,patent distribution,and statistical of patent strength.For the main path feature study,patents data in the field of organic light emitting diode,superconductor,fullerene,aerosol,desalination,photovoltaic and graphene are used to verify the feature of nodes on innovation and the relationship between weak ties and the links on the main path.
