Research On The Philosophy Of New Media Technology Based On McLuhan's Media View

Marshall McLuhan is regarded as the most famous original media theorist and ideologist of the twentieth century.He put forward many theories and predictions such as "The medium is the message","Media is the extension of man","Media hot and cold","Global Village",etc.He was honored as the prophet of the electronic age.From the electronic era of McLuhan lived in which radio and television as the main media,to the information and intelligent era in which virtual reality,artificial intelligence,Internet of things developed rapidly,the constant change and wide application of old media and new media have gradually confirmed McLuhan's predictions of the future society and reshaped people's view of time and space.While solving problems and bringing benefits to people,technological innovation will also create many new problems,such as environmental degradation,nuclear weapons,etc.Therefore,the progress of media technology is not omnipotent,and many problems are still outside the scope of technical solutions.The interaction among media,human and society will dialectically influence on human and society.What role does McLuhan's media view play in the development of new media technology?What influence does new media technology have on human beings and society?How should we avoid and respond to negative impacts?Clarifying these problems is not only helpful to re-examine McLuhan's media view from the perspective of technology philosophy,but also a realistic problem to be solved in the development of new media technology.The main purpose of this dissertation is to take McLuhan as the research object,based on his media view,the development process of new media technologies such as virtual reality,Internet of things and artificial intelligence is systematically analyzed,and discusses the theoretical significance and practical value of his media view in the era of new media technology.Firstly,starting from McLuhan's "Media extension theory",by analyzing the development of virtual reality from the germination of thought to the perfection of theory,from the emergence of technology to the application of technology,the duality of virtual reality technology and its extension and influence on human beings are in-depth discussion.It is expounded the vertical extension of virtual reality technology on McLuhan's theory of "Media is the extension of man",and reveals the ways and means of immersive,interactive,and imaginative characteristics of virtual reality technology to extend audience's senses,psychology and consciousness.Secondly,based on McLuhan's "Media message theory" and "Global Village",discusses that the horizontal expansion of Internet of things technology on McLuhan's media view.From the perspective of the dissemination and construction of mobile Internet,the formation and the value embodiment of "Global Village" is discussed.From the perspective of data collection,analysis and architecture of the mobile Internet and the reconstruction of the relationship between people and things by the Internet of things,the technical support role of big data for the Internet of things is analyzed.On the basis of McLuhan's "The medium is the message","Data is the message" and "Data is the medium" are derived,and philosophical reflection and discussion are made on the possible technological alienation and the dilemma of data ethics in the development process of the Internet of things.It discusses the innovation and one-sidedness of McLuhan's media view in understanding the complex interaction between man and media,reveals the mechanism by which new media technology changes human cognitive mode,behavioral mode and social communication mode,and puts forward the strategies to deal with the negative effects of new media technology.Finally,starting from McLuhan's "Media extension theory" and "Hot and cold media theory",based on the hypothesis of "Brain in a vat",makes philosophical thinking on the development of artificial intelligence technology from the perspectives of brain-machine fusion,human-machine fusion and ternary fusion of human-machine-thing.Based on the ontological,progressive and dialectical characteristics of human-machine fusion,discusses that human-machine fusion is the extension of human intelligence,and reveals the promoting effect of artificial intelligence technology on McLuhan's media view.Based on the ternary fusion of human-machine-thing,expounds the development trend of intelligent society from the interconnection of everything to the intelligence of everything,and points out that the key to solving the ethical dilemma in the current development of artificial intelligence technology is to establish a human-machine fusion mechanism dominated by human,machine intelligence assists human intelligence,they promote each other and develop in coordination.New media technology presents the characteristics of diversification,high level and strong interaction in its development process.The transformation of media technology has revived the debate on McLuhan's media view.Rationally understand the influence of new media technology on human cognitive mode,behavioral mode and social communication mode,which will help promote the healthy development of new media technology and realize the harmonious coexistence of human and media.
