BackgroundBlepharoplasty is an important type of plastic surgery. And ocular aesthetics is critical in surgery designing and performing. In the past,The facial soft tissue measurement was mostly done by manual measurement or two-dimensional photographs. It's easily influenced by the operator and the volunteer, and the variation of measurement were relatively significant. The three-dimensional(3D)scanning technology now can collect the facial information to reconstruct the three-dimensional model, and then achieve an accurate measurement of aesthetic data.Besides, patients' aesthetic preference varies with age, gender, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status. Therefore, our study provides a standard database for blepharoplasty, including the measurement of ocular aesthetic factors and the trend of eye aesthetic in patient/consumer population.Objective1.Using the 3D scanning technique,we aimed to collect the ocular aesthetics data of the Han Chinese young female population and conduct statistical analysis.Following this,we could provide reference data for clinical work and ocular aesthetics research.2.We design questionnaires based on the measurement data of eyes, and investigate the preference of eye aesthetics in patient/consumer popution. We will collect and analyze the data to provide valuable information for peers in ocular aesthetics.3.We follow up the patients who received epicanthoplasty in our department, and evaluate the postoperative effect,in order to introduce this operation method to peers.Methods1.The handheld 3D scanner is used to scan and collect facial morphology data. The ocular aesthetic data is measured by integrated software.Following these,we calculate the reference ranges and conduct statistical analysis to explore the differences and correlations between aesthetic data.2.The questionnaire consists of two parts:?The demographic charac-teristics and eye aesthetic preference of the respondents were summarized for the volunteers who participated in the 3D facial scanning.?Based on the reference data obtained from the 3D scanning,we design questionnaires with specifically edited pictures to further investigate consumers'/patients' the current preference of eye aesthetics in different groups.3.Through post-operation follow-up,we surveyed the postoperative satisfaction rate.We also summarize the patients'experience of operation and analyze whether the operation method could meet the aesthetic needs of the consumer population.Results1.By scanning and measuring the faces of 151 volunteers, reference ranges of a total of 26 sets of eye aesthetics data were obtained.Among these,24 sets of ratios of aesthetic elements were calculated and statistically described.Independent sample t-test of paired data showed that there were statistical differences in the Apf and Aen/Aex between the left and right eyes(p<0.05).The single sample t-test of each ratio and the"golden ratio" found no ratio statistically similar to the golden ratio(p<0.01).The Pearsons analysis showed that these aesthetic factors were significantly correlated with facial width(p<0.05).and the r-value of outer canthal distance was 0.466,which means the greatest correlation with face width.2.In the 151 respondents, laser cosmetic surgery is the operation of choice. And most patients prefer a budget range from one thousand,up to one hundred thousand RMB.The acceptability of double eyelid surgery(49.01%)was higher than that of epicanthoplasty(40.4%).Respondents showed a very open minded and understanding attitude towards plastic surgery.57.62%of the respondents prefer eyes with slight epicanthus, and 70.20%prefer eyes with medium inner canthic diameter. The most common shape of the double eyelid within interviewees is the fan, while the most desired shape is the parallel. In the 1304 respondents, injection cosmetic surgery is the most popular one.And most patients prefer a budget range from one hundred,up to ten thousand RMB.Region, age, and educational level are all the factors impacting interviewee' s accept-ability of double eyelid surgery and epicanthoplasty, with the only exception of gender.Gender, age, and educational level all impact people' s attitudes towards others who received plastic surgeries, while region doesn' t.Region did not affect the preference of palpebral fissure width.Interviewee's gender and region did not affect the preference of eyelid fissure length.Gender, region, age, and education did not affect the preference of inner canthal diameter. The most common shape of the double eyelid is the crescent, while the most popular shape is the fan.3.We calculate the postoperative satisfaction of 99.51%of 206 patients, excluding 10 patients due to lost follow-up.One(0.49%)consumer was bothered by prominent scar closed to her medial canthal area, and two(1.20%)consumers received revision procedures to correct the asymmetries.ConclusionsThis study consists of three parts, measurement of the ocular aesthetic data, questionnaires about eye aesthetic preference, and analysis of the follow-up results postoperatively. We aim to provide a good reference for the design of blepharoplasty and other eyes aesthetic research. At the same time,we introduce the dual-plane epicanthoplasty, which is a reliable and effective method with minimal scar formation, regardless of the severity of the epicanthal fold.Additionally,it is fairly easy to design and perform and can be combined with other ocular plastic surgery.
