Degree 2 was eyes with mild epicanthus and covered caruncula lacrimalis less than 1/3. In degree 3, the epicanthus covered most of caruncula lacrimalis, but not completely blocked it. Degree 4 was the caruncula lacrimalis was completely covered by epicanthus, even with epicanthus inversus. The participants were asked to rank the four photos based on the attractiveness. Other contents of questionnaire included awareness of epicanthus and attitude to epicanthoplasty. Statistical analysis was applied to the number of each group choosed the photo as first choice (considered it the most attractive).ResultsOf all the respondents,51% of respondents considered that eyes with no epicanthus was the most beautiful, however,44.8% of the respondents thinked eyes with mild epicanthus cover the caruncula lacrimalis were the most attractive.47.5% of non plastic surgeon observers and 87.0% of plastic surgeons considered eyes with no epicanthus were most attractive; while 47.9% of non plastic surgeon observers and 13% of plastic surgeons showed eyes with mild epicanthus were the most attractive. There was a significant difference between plastic surgeons and other observers (p<0.05).ConclusionsThere was a difference between plastic surgeons and patients on the aesthetic cognition of epicanthus, not all people considered that eyes with no epicanthic is the most attractive. These preference data for epicanthus can be used to better counsel before the operation in order to get a better effect and achieve patients’ most satisfaction.
