Research On The Potential Of ASEAN's Marine Economy From The Perspective Of Industry

With long coastlines,vast sea areas and abundant marine resources,most of the ASEAN countries are seafaring nations.The marine industry,as apart of national economy,has richly-endowed development conditions in ASEAN.In recent years,the marine economy of ASEAN countries has developed rapidly.Therefore,the ASEAN countries have formulated and implemented marine economy strategies and policies to speed up the industrial restructuring.Based on the theory of marine economics,and in view of principal line of the development course of ASEAN countries'marine economy,this research elaborates the profiles of the ASEAN countries'marine economy.Using descriptive statistical analysis,this research discusses the contribution of ASEAN countries'marine industry to the national economy,and analyzes the marine economy strategies and policies for individual countries.Adopting cointegration test,this research tests the relationship between marine economy and economic growth.Based on standardized comprehensive evaluation index,this research analyzes the coordinated development of marine economy,marine resources and marine environment in ASEAN countries.Relying on factor analysis,this research explores the development potential of ASEAN countries' marine economy.The major findings of this dissertation include the following.Firstly,with the development of marine economy of ASEAN countries,the marine industry is facing structural adjustment and transformation;Secoondly,the marine strategy,laws and regulations,and industry policies are important to marine economy in ASEAN countries.Thirdly,marine economy and economic growth are closely related.Fourthly,the development of marine economy has been developing rapidly,but the marine environmental protection and marine management are lagging behind.Fifth,Singapore has the leading potential of marine economic development,closely followed by Indonesia and Malaysia.As one of the most important peripheral areas in China,ASEAN has been made in pursuing 21st Century Maritime Silk Road initiative.Accordingly,marine industry cooperation will become a new highlight of China-ASEAN regional economic cooperation.According to the advantages of China-ASEAN marine resources and port industry,the main areas and key projects of China-ASEAN marine productivity cooperation are selected in the light of connectivity planning.Regional cooperation is implemented through cross regional cooperation,provincial cooperation,port city cooperation and port industry clusters.In addition,it is necessary to establish a marine industry security and risk prevention mechanism.
