With the development of marine economy in China, more attention has been given tothe effects of the innovation. It is inevitable for the cooperation when considering the highinvestment and high risks in the marine innovation. Thus, when making policies, thegovernments and decision-making departments of science and technology must face whatto do to promote the marine economy of China and the coastal regions, and to improvescience and technology innovation ability of the regions, as well. Under this background, the study of marine innovation cooperation has important theoretical and realisticsignificance.Patents are the important innovation output, and these with different applicants are thecooperation ones. Thus, such patents have the characteristics of networks. In thisdissertation, by using social network analysis method, marine patents which have beensearched from the patents query platform in the State Intellectual Property Office have beenstudied from the following aspects:(1) Firstly, the marine patents are divided into four stages, namely, from the year of1987to1999,2000to2004,2005to2009,2010to2012.The overall networks are drawn, and the evolution trends of networks are tracked from the four periods. Independent, cooperative innovations in such nodes as enterprises, Universities, research institutions aresummarizes.(2) Secondly, the collaboration networks in the overall networks are studied.According to the different attribution of nodes in the collaboration networks, the nodes aredivided into three parts: enterprises, universities and research institutions. Theabove-mentioned nodes can be extracted from the overall ones, and then the internalinnovation cooperation in the same type of nodes and external innovation cooperationbetween different type of nodes are analyzed. The internal innovation cooperation subnetworks contain enterprise sub networks, university ones and research institution ones. Onthe other hand, external innovation cooperation sub networks contains enterprise-universitysub networks, enterprise-research institution ones, university-research institution ones.(3) The regional joint innovation in the marine industry is studied. In the analysis, thepatent applicants of the marine patents are corresponded to the relevant provinces ormunicipalities, thus matrices between corresponding regions can be obtained.(4) By establishing patentee and patent catalogue2-mode cooperation networks, theevolution of the whole network is analyzed. In addition, the evolutionary and development trend of the sub-networks, such as university-IPC catalogue, enterprise-IPC catalogue, research institution-IPC catalogue are analyzed. After using strategic coordinate methods, the breadth and intensity of patentees and IPC catalogues in the matrices of patentee-IPCcatalogue are studied.(5) Empirically, by using multiple regressions in QAP, the effects of proximity oninnovation cooperation are also studied. Finally, some suggestions on marine innovationdevelopment are put forward. The hypothesis of relations between proximity and innovation cooperation is put forth.By considering these proximities, the cooperation between university and its partners canbe evaluated, and relevant model is used to analyze the correlation between proximity andinnovation cooperation. By using the conversional methods, such independent variables asproximity variables and control one, and the dependent variable, that is, innovationcooperation, are changed into measuring variables. Then, QAP correlation coefficientbetween variables are analyzed, and the influence of dependent and control variables toindependent variables is tested. Finally, the suggestion on how to promote the cooperationin the innovation of marine economy is put forth according to the results of the analysis.
