Abstract/Summary:
This praxis describes the use of Semantic Web techniques to help researchers narrow the search for reference articles for their research papers. A key component of the praxis is the creation of a program called SemanticArticleSearch. The approach uses Semantic Web technologies to extract publications, author and conference data from the web, and convert the data to a format which allows the data to be represented as Semantic data in the form of RDF, the Resource Description Framework, and the W3C standard for representing semantic data. When the data has been collected and transformed to RDF, it is moved to a data store and processed using SPARQL, a RDF query language, for extraction and search. The search results are processed, and presented to the end user in a tabular format. The resultant tables may be sorted on various criteria depending on the requirements of the end-users to direct them to key publications in their area and to identify conferences that may be appropriate to their areas of investigation.;The key contributions of this praxis include the development of tools to extract article, conference and researcher profiles from numerous web sites, the creation of an ontology to provide a basis for search and results extraction, and the use of SPARQL, a semantic web query language to perform the search and deliver the results, namely key articles and conferences related to a researcher's area of interest.
