With the continuous development of information technologies such as Big Data and Semantic Web and the innovation of reading media,the way scientific papers are published and read is rapidly transforming to digitalization.Compared with the traditional reading mode using paper as the medium,digital publishing can rapidly disseminate knowledge and provide dynamic and rich reading content,which to a certain extent meets the reading needs of users.However,with the rapid growth of the number of scientific papers,a huge amount of data resources are generated.In this environment of serious information overload,researchers need to spend a lot of time and energy to read and understand the content of papers,which easily generates high cognitive load.Semantic publishing provides a semantically rich reading environment through structured and semantic organization of content,rich external resource association,reasonable visual presentation and interactive functions.Enhanced publications,as a product of semantic publishing,help users to understand papers to some extent.When users read scientific papers,they need to deconstruct and reorganize the contents of the text to form comprehensible and graspable knowledge.Then the argument structure,as an important part of the organization,analysis and reasoning of the content of the paper,is the basis for users to understand the content of the article,and is also an important element of augmented publications enhancement.However,on the one hand,there are few rich and comprehensive forms of semantic enhancement of argumentative structure in current research on enhanced publications,and on the other hand,there are few studies on the impact of semantic enhancement of argumentative structure on users' reading effects from the perspective of users' cognition.Therefore,this study constructs an argumentative structure semantic enhancement environment for scientific papers and conducts user reading experiments based on collating research on enhanced publications and hypertext reading.Based on cognitive load theory,schema theory,constructivist theory and reading hierarchy theory,the impact of the argumentative structure semantic enhancement environment on users' reading effects was analyzed in depth through experimental data.The cognitive characteristics of users in different reading environments are explored to provide reference for the design of augmented publications.Considering the possibility of daily reading behavior,two experiments were conducted in this study,namely,an argument structure semantic enhancement experiment in a monolingual context and an argument structure semantic enhancement experiment in a cross-phrase context.From the analysis of the experimental results,it is concluded that in terms of cognitive load:argument structure semantic enhancement can reduce the cognitive load of users when reading scientific papers,and there is no significant difference between users with different education levels.In terms of reading comprehension effect: argumentative structural semantic enhancement can significantly improve users' reading effect,compared with other two levels of reading,this environment is more conducive to users' analytical reading and thematic reading,and there is a certain difference between users with different education levels in the reading effect of argumentative structural semantic enhancement environment.In terms of cross-syntactic reading: the argumentative structure semantic enhancement environment is more helpful to users' cross-syntactic reading.This study designed a reading format for argumentative structural semantic enhancement,and explored the reading preferences and cognitive characteristics of users in different reading environments by analyzing the differences in cognitive load and reading effects between text-only and argumentative structural semantic enhancement environments.This study enriches the user research perspective of scientific paper argumentative structure semantic enhancement research,evaluates the forms of argumentative structure semantic enhancement,and provides constructive suggestions for enhanced publication design.
