Abstract/Summary:
For high speed data transmission in a voice band channel, an extremely high precision channel identification is needed. An innovative identification scheme, based on an interpolation method on frequency sampled data is presented instead of the usual least squares method on time-sampled data. Some fundamental limitations of the optimal least squares equalizers are derived. A design of a fractionally spaced automatic equalizer, based on a frequency domain ideal filter over a frequency range of interest is presented. A real time implementation is presented of the Automatic/Adaptive Equalizer using the TI TMS 320 development system.
