Conference interpretation, both consecutive and simultaneous interpretation, is the conscious transition from one language into another. Consecutive interpretation occurs when the interpreter listens to a complete idea while taking notes and then interprets the speech into the target language.;The process of analyzing consecutive interpretation consists of the instructor commenting on mistakes that the student has made. The errors can range from those related to meaning, grammar, pronunciation, and accent to lexical and semantic meanings.;The pattern of errors is found in meaning, either because the student has not understood the orignal message or because the student understood the message but lacked the linguistic skill to convey the message. However, there are also other errors that can distort the intent of the message.;This study aimed at creating a knowledge base with respect to the errors, individual and patterns, made by Korean students during consecutive interpretation from Korean into English. By analyzing the patterns of errors made by students, instructors will be able to use the error patterns as a diagnostic tool for the design of instruction. The systematic inclusion of error patterns in instruction during initial, pre-consecutive interpretation experiences, should, over time, improve translations and interpretation.
