The development of a sustainable world economy faces many challenges, especially in the transportation sector. Increase in greenhouse gas emissions as well as the depletion of fossil fuel reserve have served as driving forces of advancing clean transportation based on new energy sources. The increasing demand for alternative and sustainable energy sources to replace gasoline powered engines has triggered the development of battery technologies for hybrid and electric vehicles (EVs).;Developing high-performance rechargeable batteries for EVs is a sophisticated task because of the need to meet multiple battery requirements: high energy, high power, safety, long life, low cost, and minimal environmental impact. All these requirements have brought challenges and opportunities to several booming research areas: advanced battery designs, reliable battery manufacturing for quality robustness, and high manufacturing capacity to satisfy the increasing demand. More importantly, the manufacturing process and battery performance are highly correlated. Battery manufacturing process should be considered as an inseparable part of the battery life cycle, and the potential battery performance should also be concerned during the design and quality management of manufacturing process. Therefore, to ensure a successful application of batteries in EVs, an integrated analysis of battery manufacturing and operation is of critical importance.;To contribute to this end, a novel framework of battery manufacturing management system for EVs is introduced by incorporating battery operation with its manufacturing systems. In such a system, the prediction of battery life and performance takes the influence from manufacturing specification and quality control into account, while the battery performance information would serve as feedback to the manufacturing system design and operation to improve system efficiency and product quality.
