Abstract/Summary:
This study examines a new educational environment which exists on the Internet called a Multi-user Object Oriented Environment. The goal of the study was to understand more about how this educational environment could be utilized for adult educational activities. The objectives of the study were to examine the environment, explore and discover how educational objects are used in the environment, identify teaching strategies of current faculty and differentiate which teaching strategies on-line educators perceive as effective for use in the Multi-user Object Oriented Environment. Adult educators currently presenting adult activities in this environment were contacted and surveyed. The resulting population was too small to draw conclusions, but the research showed that the small group, collaboration and discussion methods were considered to be better than the lecture method. These same methods also were perceived as effective instructional strategies by the educators.
