Abstract/Summary:
In this report, an experimental and theoretical study of bandwidth enhancement in multi-mode fiber links was achieved by using the Offset Ferrule Launch technique. It is found that almost three-fold bandwidth enhancement can be achieved compared to the standard zero Offset Ferrule Launch technique. Moreover, significant reduction in modal noise has been observed as a function of offset launch displacement. The overall signal to noise ratio is maximized at a particular offset.; A multi-mode fiber link employing the Offset Ferrule Launch could incur an increased attenuation due to the higher mode dependent loss of the mode excited, and would hence require a higher power source.
