Abstract/Summary:
The safe operation of a nuclear power plant is dependent upon operators and maintenance personnel performing activities error free. The nuclear industry continues to have events caused by human errors, which could jeopardize the safe operation of a nuclear power plant. Effective leadership communication is essential in any organization to achieve and sustain human performance excellence. The researcher examined the relationship between leadership communication and human performance at a commercial nuclear power plant. Personnel from the operations and maintenance departments were surveyed to examine the relationship between leadership communication and human performance. Specific components such as emotional intelligence, power and influence, engagement and alignment, trust and credibility, and empowerment, may support the theory of a relationship between leadership communication and human performance and may predict human performance at a commercial nuclear power plant. The relationship between leadership communication and human performance and actions leaders can take to improve human performance is discussed.
