Abstract/Summary:
There are many examples where technology dependent organizations have been successful in balancing the combination of business strategy, product features, and production efficiencies in the deployment of innovative technology. During this journey, they often reach a new level of organizational capability and effectiveness. There are also, however, numerous cases in which enterprises have not been able to synchronize all of these dimensions, and they have suffered failure. This dissertation examines the differences by proposing a Technology Innovation Integration Metamodel as a framework for evaluating enterprise ability to develop and deploy innovative technology-dependent products or services while at the same time manage the integration of new supporting technology into internal processes. The primary assumption underlying the model is that the most effective organizations are those that derive maximum competitive advantage by leveraging the combination of their capabilities and competencies, recognize incompatibilities, and then employ organizational skills in appropriately merging the two dimensions and proactively resolving conflicts. This dissertation reviews theoretical foundations, presents an implementable version of the model, and offers suggestions for further research and refinement.
