Abstract/Summary:
Research into the area of management of quality systems has shown that the operational success of any quality program depends on "soft" concepts such as leadership and culture. In particular, there appears to be a strong link between implementation of such systems and the ability to measure and predict qualitative information. A similar issue of measurement and prediction is also found in software quality. Software code quality assessment is based on expert opinion of code on quality factors such as reusability. This poses several problems. For example CIO's and IT leaders have difficulty estimating cost, schedule and quality goals for software because of the subjective nature of software quality assessment. These quality factors are important but not quantified. This dissertation implements an existing software quality index to track the quality factors between versions of software, and develops a prediction model to forecast expert opinion of software code based on software code measurement.
