Buddhism in the period of Republic of China,due to external social unrest and internal thoughtful empty,was in a chaos of crisis.On the surface,Buddhism seemed to permeate all aspects of social cultures,actually melting in folk belief.Facing the dilemma of Buddhism,many people have tried to make a difference and regarded reviving Chinese Buddhism as their responsibility.Among them,Taixu was very representative one.Taixu and his disciples have not only in domestic promoted the campaigns of reform based on Humanistic Buddhism,but also extended this idea to the overseas Chinese communities of Southeast Asia.At present,Chinese Buddhism study more involves Taixu’s domestic Buddhism reform movement,but less involves Taixu and his disciples’ preaching in overseas Chinese communities of Southeast Asia.This dissertation based on Minguo Fojiao Qikan Wenxian Jicheng edited by Huang Xianian,described the history of Taixu and his disciples spreaded Chinese Buddhism and promoted the ideas of Humanistic Buddhism in Chinese communities of Singapore,Malaya,Burma and Siam from 1922 to 1947.This is the first attempt in Chinese academic circles,will contribute to the studies of Buddhism in the period of Republic of China and Chinese Buddhism in Singapore and Malaya.
