ObjectiveTo inherit Xia Guicheng's academic thought and clinical experience in treating delayed menstruation and amenorrhea through modern scientific technology and research methods, and on the basis of these results, construct Dr.Xia's TCM diagnosis and treatment scheme of delayed menstruation and amenorrhea for clinical trials and further study.MethodsThe study is an exploratory research combining both quantitative research and qualitative research.1.Quantitative research:Establish a clinical self-service database through the Traditional Chinese medicine inheritance support system V2.5(TCMISS)software,which contains 3168 case records of delayed menstruation or amenorrhea, which were treated by Xia Guicheng.Through the method of frequency analysis and data mining, the correlation between personal academic theories and clinical experience will be processed and analyzed,as well as correlation between diseases and medicines, medicine application rules summary, new drug design and candidate drugs scanning.2.Qualitative research:Systematically collect and analyze Xia Guicheng's academic thought and clinical experience, with emphasis on the treatment of delayed menstruation and amenorrhea in TCM periodical literature. Then execute semi-structured in-depth individual interviews with Xia Guicheng to review the quantitative research results,as well as with his patients who are suffering from these diseases to study their experience and evaluate the multiple TCM interventions. Results and Conclusion1.Xia Guicheng's academic thought and clinical experience in treating delayed menstruation and amenorrhea:Guided by personal academic theories which are based on TCM classical theories and individual clinical experience;follows the principles of a holistic view combined with individual dialectics and disease-syndrome differentiation;regards the doctor-patient relationship and multiple interventions, which focuses on heart and kidney interaction, regulates movement and transformation of Yin and Yang within the organism through the phases in accordance with the regulation of the menstrual cycle therapeutic method in order to restore normal menstruation. This shows that Xia Guicheng insists on studying, developing and innovating TCM gynecology with new theories for current clinical needs.2.Inherit renowned TCM doctors' academic thought and clinical experience with modern information technology and scientific methods:Set up a clinical self-service database of case records through TCMISS software for quantitative research, combined with qualitative research through semi-stryuctured in-depth individual interviews with both doctor and patients;establish a deeper and comprehensive experience inheritance of renowned TCM doctors;attest the feasibility of using modern software to manage and deeply utilize TCM clinical data according to individual characteristics, and preliminarily study the importance of patients experience in curative effect evaluation. The study of multiple environment factors could reflect the real therapeutic process and capture implicit knowledge for more efficient and comprehensive TCM inheritance.3.Renowned TCM doctors' experience for the purpose of "theorization" and "evidential support":Quantitative research of clinical data with modern technology and methods, could provide objective quantified evidential support for personal academic theories and clinical experience, and generate core herb combinations and new formulas for further study and theorization.Dr.Xia's TCM diagnosis and treatment scheme of delayed menstruation and amenorrhea, based on the results of this study, will be further studied in clinical trials according to evidence-based medicine for higher-level evidence.
