Research On The Campus Planning And Architecture Design Of Community College In U.S.A

In the United States,community colleges have been developed for more than a hundred years and they have gained a lot of experience.Focused on this type of campuses,this paper selected 80 American community colleges as the main research objects,on the basis of a large number of first-hand information,doing research on campus planning of community college and focusing on some main problems that should be paid attention to.The introduction is the theoretical preparation of the research work,and then the main body of the thesis can be roughly divided into the following two parts.The first part is the foundation of this research,it includes a comprehensive description of the American community colleges,sample collection and some case studies.First,it introduces the basic information and characteristic of American community college from the perspective of pedagogy and the view of architecture.Secondly,it introduces the principle of sample collection and 30 main examples.These examples will appear in the following chapters and serves as demonstration to illustrate the problems put forward.The second part is the main body of this research.Through analysis of many samples of field research,this paper discusses about six problems in the field of campus planning and architecture design of American community colleges.First problem is the relationship between community college and the city,which is the basic problem.Since community colleges have a positive and close relationship with the city and can inspire the city's energy,the research of the following problems seems more significant.Second problem is the indicators related to campus planning and construction,which includes constructive land index and floor-space index.These indicators are important basis to prepare the design task requirement and the facility master plan of the campus.They are guarantee of the scientificity,rationality and logicality of campus planning.Third problem is the spatial patterns of the community college,which shows the general layout of buildings of different functions in the site-plan.In this paper,through comparative analysis of the difference between community colleges and universities, the spatial pattern of the community college is derived.The fourth problem is capital construction procedure of the campus,which shows the relationship of different steps in campus planning and construction.The feature of capital construction procedure is the dynamic renewal facility master plan with a flexible frame and guide rule.Here it draws forth the following two problems in facility master plan.The fifth and the sixth problems are sustainable development and campus personality,which are both highlight in the facility master plan of campus.This paper elaborates advanced sustainable development strategy of American community colleges,and analyzes the method to shape campus personality through natural elements,landscape space and traffic organization.In the final conclusion part,this paper summarizes the research achievement first,and then combined with China's national conditions,gives some suggestions on how to learn from American experience in our community college campus planning.
