Military instruction and industrial applications have stimulated intense interests in the area of pulsed power technologies towards the systems with solid-state characteristics and modularited components.Therefore,the solid-state long pulse generator based on the technology of magnetic switch is proposed by our group with output power of 5GW,pulse width of 160 ns and repetitive rate of 20 Hz,which has not been reported in China.Based on the detailed analysis of high power pulse generator,a novel magnetic switch with spliced winding is proposed.An adjustable gigawatt level magnetic pulse compressor,which has advantages of high peak power,high repetitive rate,long lifetime and high reliability,has been successfully utilized for optimizing the high power solid-state long pulse generator.The contents and creativities of the dissertation are listed as follows.1.The saturation mechanism of the amorphous magnetic core,stimulated by high voltage,intense magnetic field and fast saturation time,is studied in detail according to the requirements of the high power pulse generator.Characteristics of the magnetic cores are investigated both numerically and experimentally.The results shown that key parameters which influence the performance of the magnetic switch are mainly depended on the magnetic materials,structure of the magnetic core,and intense and shape of the stimulated magnetic field.Concludions can be utilized for the design and optimization of the magnetic core,which provide a significant reference for the research on this kind of pulse generator.2.In order to solve the problems of the un-selfconsistency design method and bulky volume of the conventional magnetic switch,the analysis formula of the pre-pulse is theoretically derived,and the solutions for decreasing the pre-pulse are proposed.The design process,saturation time and structure of the magnetic switch are optimized.The design accuracy of the switch is increased.The volume,weight and cost are decreased which is of importance to the decreasing of the jitter of the switch.3.As the conventional magnetic switch has only a single working point,a spliced winding structure with multi-conductor is proposed with idea of ‘break up the whole into parts'.Through the changing of the connection,the number of the winding can be modulated which can adjust the peak voltage,saturation time and compression ratio of the magnetic switch.The high power adjustable magnetic switch is investigated experimentally.The principle is verified.These efforts are the ground for the development of the adjustable pulse generator.4.A gigawatt level adjustable magnetic pulse compressor is investigated and successfully utilized in the solid-state long pulse generator based on the technology of adjustable magnetic switch.The device is employed for modulating the output pulses from pulse transformer and fast charging for the solid-state pulse forming network.Adjusted compression ratios with 25(25?s to 1?s)and 20(20?s to 1?s),approximately,are achieved by changing the number of turns of the winding.Pulses with peak voltage over 55 k V,power over 0.55 GW and repetitive rate of 20 Hz are obtained from the developed compressor with good repeatability.With the matched dummy load,the solid-state long pulse generator achieved quasi-square pulses with peak power over 2GW,pulse width over 170 ns.The accelerator can work with repetitive rate of 20 Hz.Based on the above mentioned results,the generator is updated.Intense electron beams with peak power over 5GW,pulse width over 170 ns are achieved on the velvet cathode without guided magnetic field.
