Media Image Communication And Meaning Construction Of Environmental Movement In The New Media Age

In the 1990s,environmental issues were increasingly concerned in China.In recent years,the environmental movement caused by the construction of the PX project,the site selection of waste incineration plant,through joint performance of the traditional media and the new media,has been received a wide range of socialconcern,which have an impact on environment policy-making and dissemination,and also impact on the philosophy of cognitive of relationship between man and nature.Our world has been full of visual elements,the image both as a means of mobilization and as an important symbol of environmental movement.The media is the key to environmental movement,and environmental movement can not be formed lack of media.Image is the way in which we construct and think about the world,Heidegger said that our world has been grasped as an image.So we must analyze in-depth this visual regression to understand what is happening in our world and what will happen.I hope to explore dissemination process and its meaning construction of the media image in environmental movement.Based on Foucault's theory of "discourse and power",the dissertation analyzes the media image in environmental movement through the path of "what is discourse-how to construct power by discourse-what kind of power is constructed by discourse".The research content is divided into four parts.Firstly,discussion of the image ontology.How does the media image present the environment?What are the important visual elements involved?Secondly,the context of image generation.What context does the image spread?What is the impact on public psychology?Thirdly,the generation path of image meaning.How does the image form a consistent perception of the image?How does the media image of the environmental movement construct a framework to illustrate the current environmental movement?Fourthly,the meaning of image.What kind of meaning does the image construct in the environmental movement,and what power is built in terms of society?The author tries to explore the impact of image transmission on environmental movement and macro society.Based on the heat of public opinion,the author selected the media images in the environmental public events that had occurred in our country since 2003,and adopted the methods of content analysis,semiotics and rhetoric,and psychological.The dissertation explores the emotional mobilization strategy through image ontology research and the context of image meaning.Ultimately,image frames and meaning interpretation has been formed.Nine events were distributed in urban areas and rural areas,the causes of environmental movement and media images on the different regions are quite different.The environmental movement in the rural areas is mostly driven by the consciousness of the victim and media images are mostly present the harm of the victims.The environmental movement in the urban areas is mostly driven by the democratic participation consciousness and media images mostly focus on the the process of environmental movement.The results show that the meaning of media images is regulated in the context of culture,policy,event,accompanying text and psychology.In the environmental movement which environmental problems actually occurred and driven by the victim consciousness,media image forms the emotional mobilization through tragic narrative strategy based on physical struggle.In the environmental movement which environment problems have not yet happened,media images are mostly mobilize by the strategy of fear appeals.In addition,there is the active mobilization strategy based on the collective memory.During the emotion mobilization,the construction of the media image meaning is completed,forming a change from the framework of questioning Prometheanship to the construction of democratic participatory discourse.Media image constructs the "unequal distribution of democratic participation and responsibility" of the environmental movement,and constructs the urban-rural dual structure of the environment,which causes deficiency injustice in environmental communication.In general,the frame of image construction gradually escapes the environment and begins to add political discourse to environmental discourse.As in the perspective of rhetoric,environmental discourse is incorporated into other more socially concerned discourses,such as racial discourse,and female discourse,which combines environmental discourse into democratic participation and is also a solution to environmental problems.
